‘Tis gone......but not an easy process!

Featured Replies

After 31 months my S3 Combi L&K 190 DSG 4x4 in Rosso Brunello has passed on to new keepers.

Just under 38k miles.  Very high spec as the early cars all were.

New tyres.

4 year warranty (Oct 2019]

Virtual Pedal non-functional and Škoda couldn’t fix it - they did try but weren’t interested once I said I was handing it back.

It should appear at a BCA auction sometime in the very near future.

Handing it back turned out to be a little more challenging that it ought to have been.  Škoda UK were very good and had everything buttoned up within a couple of days.  The same cannot be said of the vehicle recovery agent though!

Appointments were booked with the inspection to take place last Friday (11th) during the afternoon and removal today (14th).  An email from BCA changed that to the morning on both dates.  No one turned up on the 11th and when I rang late afternoon to find out what was going they said they were too busy and I needed to ring VW Finance (erm it’s a Škoda).

Škoda UK did step in and the car should have been inspected in the morning with collection during the afternoon, and the BCA team would be in touch.  They weren’t!  Turns out they used my work number, not my home number!  Fortunately their rep had the common sense to work out that I would not be at work anyway and the collection address was 30 miles away from there.

The car has been inspected and then driven away (during a 20 min period either side of noon so technically correct.  I also took a lot of pictures in case something comes back - and you get sent a bill within 14 days - though the only recorded damage is very light scratches on the bumper top just below the tailgate.

Škoda have created a formal complaint (8 weeks to resolve) on my behalf which is fine, but just be aware if you are handing it back you may be disappointed or not kept informed at all.  BCA did originally offer to take the car away and then get it inspected and then let me know.  Do not let this happen under any circumstances!  You could find yourself with all sorts of charges for damage you did not know about.

Be very sure to check the final invoice.  I VT'd on my SEAT Leon (due to horrific depreciation) and the collection agency on behalf of Manheim pulled a fast one and invoiced the finance company for an overnight storage charge and valeting fees.  The car was collected as 'immaculate' according to the collection driver and it wasn't my problem that Manheim couldn't accept the car on the day.  Like you I had taken plenty of photo's of the freshly detailed car and the collection agency didn't have a leg to stand on.  The finance company were brilliant though and even waived the collection fee by means of an apology for the oversight.

What car are you getting next ?

Nightmare... So what's the replacement. ?

All mine had on it was pollen - it was clean on Friday when they should have turned up.  Inside was fully vacuumed.  Thanks for the tip as the driver said it was going to a ‘recovery yard’ at South Mimms.  If BCA bill then I can counter!

Replacement is planned to be a BMW F48 220d xDrive Gran Tourer M Sport auto.  Be about three months to wait.
