Fitting CD autochanger & swapping storage...

Featured Replies

Hmm, appears Xenons and 6CD option combination are hen's teeth on any new Fabia's available in the UK at the moment. :(

So has anyone had an autochanger fitted afterwards and managed to also swap the storage compartment from under the passenger side seat to the driver's side? (This the arrangement in the current car) Wonder if this is just a straight swap of parts from one seat to another?

I've seen the parts list for the fit on http://www.fabia-vrs.com/parts.htm (good site that) but this doesn't mention moving the storage box.

How much work is all this? Seats out?

Ta for any info.

The storage bins are handed (left and right) but a complete bin costs less than a tenner, so you might as well fit the other one.

You need to take the seats out (so strictly speaking you need to replace the 'use once only' seat runner bolts) and undo 4 screws and a couple of clips. Really easy.

The Skoda CD changer has brackets which fix to the same screw points used by the trim round the seat - no drilling, they pick up on holes already there. The CD Changer brackets may come as a left or right seat pair.

As an aside, I noticed that certain VW CD-changers appear identical to ours. Can be had from 1stvwparts or similar in the states for a lot less than the Skoda RRP. Might be worth investigating.

Do you really need the storage box under the seat? Have you ever used the current one?

Thanks for that.

Solution to the lack of 6CD equipped Xenon cars is that the dealer is going to take my changer out of the current Fabia and fit it into the new one.

Umbrella among other things fits very nicely in the storage bin so yes use it all the time, and having it on the driver's side is miles better than on the passenger (like in the old Y reg Fabia I had).

Was gonna say, my dealer said he would fit a cd changer to my car whenever I felt I needed one for the same price thats in the brochure. Havent taken him up on it as I still think its a very large amount of money to have 6 cd's at my disposal. I decided to save the cash and change them myself.

I might get myself aan alpine head unit though thats supports mp3 and ipod connection.

I'm surprised car manufacturers aren't fitting mp3 players to their cars as a no cost option these days. There must be as many people with computers these days - computer literate and the desire to be able to stick 150 songs on one cd and play them in the car - as there are that don't have, and the technology isn't exactly expensive these days.
