Don't suppose anyone has the P/N for the shocks to hand?

The part number for the Golf shocks is 5Q0513049CQ

So I've had the car for a week now – 2013 Octavia 2.0 TDI (150bhp) Elegance (hatchback) in white. So far I'm impressed, but there are a few niggles: the rear washer popping its pipe off, the very firm ride (I'm still getting used to that, from a spongy Golf before), but mainly I'm a bit confused about the spec. It has 18" Golus wheels, looks lowered, has a funny coloured badge (TDI), non branded kick plates, but otherwise the usual elegance toys: cruise control, front fog lights, xenon headlights + washers, lumbar support, parking sensors (rear), partial leather seat trim, Sat Nav etc.

I drive 90 miles a day commute and find the car very reassuringly solid, but can't seem to get the power delivery right for a quick 0-60. I had it down in the Golf (2.0 TDI 140bhp) and could easily upset the BMW and Audi drivers on the motorway slips etc. With the Octy I just can't find the right power band. Maybe I'm changing up too quickly. Don't get me wrong the power is there, but its more of a smooth delivery than the golf, and nothing like the great big lump or torque I get in the mk1 Fabia vrs.

I guess I'll get used to it in the end, its only been a week. Also I'm a little nervous of walloping the car too much as I've only just got it and think before me it wasn't driven very often (only 28k on clock - 5 years old, not had a timing belt change yet!). Look forward to hearing your views folks.

Pics to follow ...

Thats why I settled on the Octavia vRS ( petrol) when I got my new car ( with intention to replace the Fabia)
Thing is I still have the Fabia - drives so well !

Not as outright fast as the Octy from 0 to silly speeds -

but doesn't seem there is that much in it for day to day driving and feels so much torquier and perhaps a bit more exciting in the Fabia - I am booting the Octavia thinking, when will this light up and ever get exciting ? and by that time you are into illegal o clock and with the real potential of police being about not something you want to do for too long.

So IMO you have no chance comparing something like a Fabia vRS (BLT mine) with any octy diesel even vRS for the feel

( which lets face it Octy vRS diesel is subordinate to the petrol hands down)

I actually have been sitting on the fence regarding stage 1 map go 300hp due to cost but its the only thing that would convince me to ditch the Fabia. And I probably still won't. Hence prepare for a compromise as the Octy you have is never going to be as exciting as the Fabia although its more polished all round.

I notice you can get several brands with same P/N, Sachs, bilstein, etc. Would it matter which one I got?

Get an electric car (EV), so much fun 0-40mph, maximum torque instantly. ;)  I've owned various sports and city cars, the EV beats them all in the city for ease of driving and fun.

I (try to) only drive my Octy at 70mph on long trips. In town, it's horrible to drive compared to my budget first generation EV (Nissan Leaf). Different tools for different jobs.

The shocks that I got were genuine VW ones from a Mk7 Golf. I actually got them off eBay from a fairly new, crash-damaged Golf that was being broken into parts. It was newer and had done less miles than my Octavia so I was happy to use them, they cost about £40 for the pair, good value. Other people have just bought them direct from a VW dealer, not too expensive.

Lots of companies dual source components. Both will be to the same VAG Standard

If it has lowered springs/shocks, somebody put a green d in the TDI....

it’s not a green line with different alloys is it?

When I de-badged the TDI bit I realised the green D and red I were painted on ... go figure
