Washers stopped working

Featured Replies

What fuse is it that controls the front and rear screen wash?

Can't find it in the handbook.  Nothing comes out of the front or back, but when lights are on the headlight washers work as they should do.

If I try and use the front washers and pull back on the stalk the wipers sweep as they should but when I try it again, there is nothing, have to wait a few minutes before it will work again.

Any ideas before I get it booked in?

Car is a November 2010 Superb Combi

The front window wipers fuse is F31 in the engine compartment fuse box (30 A), the issue you're describing sounds more like a relay problem not a fuse-related one

On the Combi, there's a single washer motor for both the front and rear washer jets. Looking at the wiring diagrams, it's driven directly from the Vehicle Voltage Control Unit (J519, often known as the BCM) without any fuse or relay between them.

Since both washers are not working, I think there are two possibilities: dead washer pump or damaged BCM. Checking cause is fairly straightforward: unplug the cable into the pump and get a friend to operate the washer lever while you measure the voltage across the terminals on the cable. If you see voltage there, it's the pump; if you don't, it's the BCM.

It's the washer that's failed, not the wiper.

Thanks, I'll take a look later.

Yes wipers work fine, so OK in the rain, just not so good with the bugs that now cover the window.

My mistake, the way I've read it was like the wipers work intermittently, not the washers
