Coolant problem

@Lynn67 - Since no-one else has mentioned it, this would also be a good time to flush the block.

Ok. Help with ordering the right radiator and thermostat and ECT sensor. Every one i look at says more than one can fit my car. AUB code. Recommendations would be a big help here.

There may well be a part number sticker on the top edge of the radiator, so have a look for that.

Thermostat has two possible options, you may need to look for 'Himmermann' or Henschel' on the cover to get the right variant of item 5, ECT sensor is item 8 here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2002-225/1/121-121075/

Ebay will probably be a good source for a cheap manual if you don't want it immediately, otherwise, Halfords at around £20.

Just a thought though, have you tried one of those radiator leek stop bottles? I would not normally suggest it but there is one I think I would compared to others. It is called K-seal and costs around ten to twelve quid. I rate this above stuff like Barrs leaks (Ok for old simple systems) Etc.  Might give you a few weeks to source a good deal.

Thanks Wino I'll have a look and see if I can see a sticker and the cover of thermostat.

AUB has the thermostat that looks like a black plastic shotgun cartridge and it's much more expensive, it also has the two-wire ECT sensor, push-in type, radiators are all the same as long as you get the one for use with aircon.

Hi yes I put Seal it in and it did work to begin with but the leak has got worse so unfortunately rad needs replacing now.

I'm not surprised, that car is probably nearly 18 years old, make sure you flush all that dreadful crap out of the system before you button it up. I just sold mine to a family friend for £200, still nothing wrong with it.

Yeah, many are get home items and just leak again. Thats why I suggested K-Seal as it is meant to be permanent, without causing harm to waterways, etc. (It claims to be the only sealant carried by the AA). Most stuff is clogging agent, so best left to simpler rd systems and a get home or to garage repair! Might be worth, when you have the new rad, to ensure adding a water pump lubricant/rust inhibitor to the anti freeze, to help prolong the life or the rad. Two years is quite short!

Yeah tell me about it even when I contacted the mechanic who put the rad in he said that was a real **** to go so soon. He moaned about the fact that he had to take the front off the car to do it as well.

Escort that's going back some years now. I used to work at the local Ford garage years ago as a dealer transfer driver / car valet. I used to love that job although I don't think I want to be doing that these days with the amount of vehicles on the road today. I used to have to check all the cars off the transporters and log them in and take the stereos out and store them in a locked area and put the cars in the compound and the chassis cabs, P100, transit. But we all used to have a laugh in the cleaning bay:biggrin:

I also used to work at a Ford dealer doing PDIs and de-waxing new cars :-) I was there when the MK3 Escort came out. I remember its code name being Erika.

Did you use to hate getting the paraffin wax off the new cars that used to be a pain. I used to get the cars for the mechanics to do the PDIs on. Then they would pass them back to the valets to get ready for the new owners.  The Orion came out when i was there the back end used to kick out on it bit like the capri.
