Service items Fabia 2 1.2 TSI

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just looking at oil + filter and plugs change on my partner's 1.2 TSI (86HP), 2014 plate.

Can anyone please confirm the following parts as OK?

Filter: Mann W712/94

Oil: Mobil 3000 X1 5W-40 (to VW502 spec)

Plugs: Bosch (product code 408994660 from Euro car parts - does not have Bosch part number).

I'm changing the oil at 8 months / ~7000 miles as the car does quite a few short journeys on the school run. So, doesn't seem much point in putting VW507 spec oil in to change at 7000 (or even slightly longer).

NGK plugs are almost twice the price but I'm under the impression that Bosch don't make any rubbish and could well be OEM for VW? Or, have people had problems with Bosch plugs in these engines?

If I order these parts from Euro car parts (With one of their consistent n% off offers), it all comes to £64. Is it likely that the dealer would be cheaper as I've heard they sell oil cheaper than most other sellers...

Thanks for any advice

NGK 97153 are about 7 pounds if you order from amazon spain.

Oil and filter is ok.

You'll probably need a cup wrench to remove the filter which dealers screw on far too tight.

Consider changing the sump plug for a new one.

Cheapest for spark plugs is Opie Oils

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-119682-bosch-iridium-spark-plug-0242240665.aspx

Make sure to order the 4 pack, its cheaper than ordering 4 x single.

Use discount code "Brisk" to get 10% briskoda discount on top.

They also do the OE NGK plugs but are almost twice price.

Check the filter/oil prices too as they are competitive.

Btw, from personal experience the plugs on this engine are good for 60,000 miles so dont change them prematurely. Our 2013 1.2tsi 86ps fabia still had serviceable plugs at 85,000 miles! Those on the 2011 1.2tsi Octavia were changed at 56,000 miles but had at least another 10k+ life left in them.

You will need one of these to avoid damaging the leads, the boots are very stiff to pull off....

And good quality socket e.g. laser

A long artists brush is handy to clean the spark plug seats which are a long way down and will have grit drop on them when removing the plugs.

& OEM plugs with VW/Audi on them are from NGK.

Heres some some picture evidence regarding bosch v ngk plugs I posted elsewhere to help you decide.

One thing about this list of service parts, the OP says that this car is a MK2 Fabia 2014 car, with a 1.2TSI 86HP engine, but I'd expect that car will have the EA111 engine with the chain driven cam shaft and so an oil filter assembly that has an inner disposable element and not a self contained metal can filter - am I right or wrong as the Mann filter listed is the metal cased one that does need a suitable cup wrench to get it off - whereas the older version which has a plastic case has a hex head on it.

Can someone clear this up before the OP buys the wrong parts please.

Then stuff a hoover hose down on top of the plugs or shut your eyes and blow VERY hard!

It will be the cbza ea111 cam chain engine.

Metal canister oil filter Mann W712/94 mounted on top of engine. Very easy to change (with the cup wrench). Undo 1½-2 turns and leave for 1 minute to allow filter to drain down before unscrewing completely. Make sure to remove the old inner rubber ring seal that often gets detatched and left behind and sometimes missed if covered in black oil.

Hi,

Thanks for all the excellent replies - very much appreciated.

I just took a look under the bonnet (should have done it earlier!) and it is a CBZA engine and the oil filter very much appears to be a metal can (W712/94 filter).

The car has done 33,000 miles but I was under the impression that the plugs needed changing every 4 years (?) since that is what I was told when I asked at the Skoda dealer.

I guess I was a bit twitchy about leaving them in too long although a mechanic friend of mine told me to ignore the service schedule and change them "when you start to feel it hesitate on acceleration..." Add that to the "should be good for 60k" and it sounds like I ought to leave them alone for a bit longer?

If I do get some, I'll probably order NGK from Opie since they are half the price of the Euro car parts items unless someone can tell me that the Bosch are just as good (I did read the thread - it seemed that the Bosch may be better made although the heat range is unknown?)

Talking of Opie (thanks for the 10% discount tip, too), I see they do service kits of oil and filter. I've normally bought Mann filters in the past but the kit comes with Mahle - are they any good?

Thanks in advance.

The Service Schedule that Main Dealers was going by was 60,000 miles for what they said was long life plugs.

Some still hold to this.

For a good reason the spark plugs are being changed with the 'Fixed Service' interval of 9,400 miles / 372 days so annual had the 4 year service or 2nd major service including spark plugs being changed, well some Dealership Techs did & do.

People are paying for them anyway to be changed, and they are not expensive, failure can be expensive.

I always used Mahle Oil Filters on my Fabia Twinchargers and other peoples.

Not because they only cost me £4, but because they were good, and i did not like the Silver Filters VW / Skoda went over to.

Thanks.

Anyone been using the Bosch plugs without issue ?  Bosch e-catalogue is down at the moment and I can't check part numbers. I think they are 0242 240 665.

Ah well, there you go, sorry I questioned the choice of oil filter, I just thought that VAG were still deeply into the funky tree hugger oil filter element inside a reusable plastic case when that engine was launched.

On the subject of factory fitted oil filters being a bit tight, I thought that I was going to damage the oil cooler on my old 2000 VW Passat when I changed its oil earlier than flexible servicing would have liked.

Yes Bosh plugs have the 0 242 240 665 part number
