Hail and storm damage fault codes

Hey hoping for any suggestions on what the root cause of all the faults I’m getting on my VCDS scan.

I’m currently in the Netherlands and am meant to be returning to the uk on wed today.

however whilst coming out of Utrect on Tuesday the lovely sunny 31c day quickly turned to severe rain and hail, there is some cosmetic damage to roof and bonnet from the hail which I will worry about later.

My main issue is whilst driving I had the following flash up on the maxi dot:

error: brakes workshop

error: acc front assist

error: tpm

error: esc stability

error: light bend

in total 7 faults appeared and the car is constantly making a bing sound as it flashes up with errors every 1-2 seconds.

i suspect it’s water ingress due to the amount of rain water build up on roads, at one point I couldn’t see the kerbs and had nowhere to pull over to.

On checking the car with vcds im getting loads of faults across several control units. In addition to the faults the brake lights are flashing on and off, which is a real pain as this makes the car unsafe to drive effectively stranding me in Holland.

Going to try and see if I can get skoda to look at it but wondered if anyone had any idea what would cause all these faults?

Have you tried clearing all fault codes and seeing which come back as some of those are intermittent.

Yer tried clearing the faults the above scan is what keeps coming back.

took it into skoda this morning and they tried clearing faults to no avail and are unsure on what the issue is.

i’m wondering now what with hail damage on roof and bonnet plus the electrical issue if calling the insurance is now the best option?

Is it worth trying disconnecting the battery and reconnecting?

Looks like some kind of databus issue, dropping the battery off will reset all of the modules which would be worth a go.

Is the roof damage severe enough to have damaged any of the databus cables or for the roof to touch any of the modules in the roof?

I would say there are so many faults there, it sounds like water has got into an ECU or similar control box (Doors would always be a good candidate)

If the hail had damaged the wiring, you'd have some pretty serious bodywork damage.

Someone had something similar happen on a Superb 3 and it turns out it was caused by rodents chewing through the wiring loom. Hang on I'll dig out the thread. The weather is likely the cause but the faults generated look pretty similar so it's worth a look IMO.

No they are only shallow indents, just annoying more than anything.

Anyone know where the car reads speed from? Is it what I would call the abs sensors on the hubs?

speedo wasn’t working but has started to periodically work and when the speedo is working the error:brakes doesn’t show and the rear brake lights stop flickering.

If the hail had damaged the wiring, you'd have some pretty serious bodywork damage.

The water wasn’t high enough to get into the evy and engine bay is dry, can only assume it’s a sensor or similar low down like abs, steering angle? But only stabbing in the dark at the moment.

I'd expect it to be the four ABS sensors on the hubs. You can use the measuring blocks in VCDS to monitor all four on a short drive.

Certainly feels like water has gotten somewhere it shouldn't, hard to say where though :/

Don’t forget that water drains into doors etc in heavy rain and in theorist should drain out again.

there used to be electronics in the door/boot etc, so rather than high water I would suspect sheer volume of falling water.

lots of the messages are implausible ones, so it could be one device on that bus that is going mad and messing up signals from all of the others.

Sounds like a nightmare!

I haven't a clue how the systems work or what VCDS is highlighting, but you mentioned one fault that popped up - error: acc front assist

Rather than delving into the depths of water ingress playing havoc with the software management, could it possibly be something as simple as the front sensor on your grille being damaged? Often experience the ACC front assist message being displayed during heavy rain on our SEAT - all OK again when the rain goes off, but just thinking hail may have damaged it?

Could those other error messages be related to this sensor too? I'm assuming auto-braking system will also use it?

I can't even guess what 'light bend' is tho.

Edit: Ok I will take a guess. Could hail have damaged the windscreen which means the camera sensors are being fed false information?

Good point, will have to remind myself how to use the measuring blocks been a while since I’ve with vcds. I am thinking abs is a possibility!

Also, these " [New feature! Extended UDS fault detail is only supported by current gen. interfaces]" are because you need the latest VCDS cable to work with the Mk 3 Octavia so not sure that is skewing the results?
