Dunno, I chucked AA off because it's rubbish.

What makes it rubbish? I think it might be a case of PEBCAK ;)

I read the thread sideways, so can you sum up what you are trying to achieve?

Ideally to access my Amazon Music Unlimited content via Android Auto, but it doesn't seem to be possible.

At least for Spotify, all the content is there - actually i think that Spotify works better in Android Auto than in Apple CarPlay, but this solves not your problem :)

Since I don't have an Amazon subscription, I cannot try that one for you, but if there is some free account that can be used for testing, I will give it a shot

So you can browse new albums and artists on Spotify via AA?

Every aspect of it makes me think of the graphics that used to be used in primary school stuff in the 70s & 80s and possibly very early android stuff, it's so unbelievably primitive and childlike. I guess you have to cater for those who want to break the law and fiddle with their phones on the move, but why do so when you don't need to touch it with thing's like facial & voice recognition.

Mapping I'm just about to put my memory to the test, depending on how the M3, A303, A358 etc behaves tomorrow, I usually can divert at will and know exactly where I'm going including diversionary routes from memory. The only place that I can't seem to get to grips with is Sarum, always get lost in there and Wilton, but once clear of there (should the need arise) I'm fine using the back roads out to Willoughby Hedge/Charnage Down.

Not as in the regular app - I can access my playlists, recently played, genre radio, etc.

If I want to play something from the full Spotify library, while the Spotify app is open, I tap the microphone icon and use voice control, for instance "play Dire Straits Brothers in Arms album" will play the full album or, tell it to play an artist, for instance "Play Madonna" or tell it to play a specific song, etc.

Maybe try if you have same behaviour in the Amazon Music app?

But that's the point of the whole thing - a simplistic interface that doesn't catch your attention and requires minimum effort to operate.

I think they achieved it better than Apple Car play.

I think you expect Android Auto to be something it isn't - I understand what you expect (that is what Mirrorlink tried to be and failed) but any driver already has plenty of distractions, so staring down at a screen full of eye candy would keep your eyes off the road too much.

I understand the design language and concept for this purpose.

It is simplistic by design and functionality so that it is easy to operate.

But touching your mobile phone with your hands whilst driving is an offence. That's why I activated the voice features and the facial recognition to operate it without touching it. I don't like using it whilst driving anyway and I commit certain route corridors to memory so I don't need to use a sat nav unless I really have to.

The only reason I use a sat nav is for speed camera alerts and traffic information, it tells me, I'll divert long before other drivers will or do.

Fair enough - it doesn't have to be for everyone, but to dismiss it as rubbish just because it doesn't serve exactly your use case just seems a bit harsh ;)

It does what it is meant to do quite well.

AFAIK no Amazon music setup is available on AA or other Google assistant based systems (home, etc). One way to make it work (which is how I think someone was trying to explain) download the music you want to listen to and either put it in the correct folder or point play music at it. Set play music as download only and plug into the car. This should give you access to all the stuff you download with Amazon.

Just tried downloading some music with my prime account and play music can't play the files. Recognises they are there though. If you have paid for the music then you should be able to do it this way.

Just checked with music I own and it works with the stand alone AA app so should work when plugged in.

Bit of a faff moving music from Amazon folder to the music folder but worth it if that's your music setup.

Wait, only now I read this right... Are you using Android Auto on your phone as a standalone app, interacting with the phone screen??

It is really meant to be displayed on the car screen and controlled from there.

This might explain why your experience is so negative :)

We'll Spotify is the clear winner here. Joined last night and added a few albums to my library, all accessible from android auto by artist and album. And same with downloaded albums.

I'm able to search through music on Amazon with car play fine, when car play works; seems to crash every other time you ask it to do anything other than maps, such as Amazon music/whatsapp/Skoda Oneapp (though to be fair the skoda oneapp is dreadful anyway, i don't know why i persevere with it!)

Yeah, doesn't do the same on Android Auto. Probably due to the Amazon/Google wars.

Android Auto does have Amazon Music. DRM will prevent you doing what you tried. If it was possible to do that everybody would be getting free trials and downloading 1000's of albums for free :D

As you say its down to agreements between the companies.  If you own the music then you are free to copy the files to wherever you like and google play recognises personal music files.

Does is play natively from amazon mp3 or from amazon prime music?

CarPlay / Android Auto isn't designed for you to access every feature of the Native phone app, rather to allow you access to a subset of features suitable for the car.  Eg.  they don't want you travelling down the M62 staring at your ICE screen trying to choose music :)

Yeah i dont want that happening as it would distract me from my sexting!

Oddly enough, literally one hour ago just stumbled into this video and tried - it works!

Might help some people on this thread, but you kinda need to be techy and also have a rooted phone.

Is anyone on here using Android Auto with Spotify and downloaded albums? Recently i've lost the 'Downloaded' option as shown above, has anyone else noticed this?
