End of 2 year lease, final report and thoughts.

Featured Replies

Two years ago I leased two Yeti's for me and my Dad on the £99 a month deal, the last one goes back today.

Two 1.2TSi DSG SE's in Jungle Green.

So how has it gone?

Both cars have not had any real issues apart from the occasional clutch slip from the DSG. The dealer has investigated this twice on both cars but can't replicate it. I didn't pursue it as it was rare and they were to be returned on lease so I knew I wasn't keeping them.

The Good.

I found performance around town really good, they always felt solid, well built and pretty bullet proof. They handle really well for such a tall vehicle. My wife who suffers back problems found the seating good and easy to get in and out of. Space wise the Yeti is very practical for it's external size.

The Bad.

I never really found the seating to offer enough support and never really got comfortable with the driving position. Economy wasn't great, we have an Octavia 1.2TSi and the Yeti was usually around 10mpg less. That's the taller shape and extra weight for you. Although the Yeti is practical for it's size we still found the boot too small on some occasions not in the same league as the Octavia but that's a longer vehicle.

So overall yes we enjoyed the Yeti but for me the driving position, short boot and economy means our replacement is an Octavia.

My Dad sadly passed away during the lease period and my Mum has been driving the other Yeti, she only uses the car locally so has replaced it with a Citigo.

Driving position is transformed if you get a Yeti with the electric seat option, so much more adjustable. My first had the standard seat, very difficult to d=find a good position. second and third yetis have had the electric seat option which allows the squab angle to be tailored to suit. It makes a huge difference.

For me I found I could get my feet the correct distance from the pedals but then the steering wheel was a bit to far away even with the wheel fully out. To get comfortable with the wheel I needed the seat back more upright than I'd like or my legs a little bit too squashed. And the armrest was nut much use as it's low and too far back.

It maybe I'm a weird shape. :)

I would have loved to have specified electric seats on mine.  Unfortunately, they were not available on S or SE models.  So it was necessary to upgrade to SEL just to be able to specify electric seats, which made them a very expensive option indeed.

@logiclee - Driving position is a similar compromise for me too, so maybe we're both weird shapes :D

Enjoy your Octy mate!

Incidentally, if anyone else is experiencing occasional DSG clutch slip (especially with cold engine & gearbox) there is an interesting thread about it in the Fabia III section.

We had the electric seat option on our first Yeti, but didn't specify it on our second. I found both to be very comfortable. We do a 750 mile round trip to visit family every 6 - 8 weeks and never had a problem with comfort or driver position. We now have a Karoq Edition which has the electric seat and I struggle to get the lumbar support just right. No doubt I'll get used to it.

I pull the drivers arm rest out and set it in the top position, find this is just right for me. Only use it on long motorway or a road trips. Put it down and back out of the way when in heavy stop start traffic as otherwise it got in the way of using the handrake. (Not a problem now with dsg though)

I found even at it's highest and most forward it was still a tad low and was more an elbow rest than an arm rest.

Probably more to do with the higher driving position on the Yeti than the Golf/Octavia.

I really wanted a Yeti a few years back but found the overall lack of space (rear leg room and boot) put me off.

Sad about your Dad, bet your Mum is enjoying the Citigo though, a very spacious small car, that is deceptively roomy in the cabin area.

My wife totally loves her Citigo despite the recent ABS pump issue and potential silly costs to sort it.

The Octavia boot is huge.

I also would have loved a Yeti but likewise bootspace and rear leg room put me off which is why I ended up with a Superb II (and still have an Octavia I)

Yeti Replacement.

Previous owner went a bit mad with the options. Columbus Nav, Bi-Xenons and black cornering fogs, Intelligent Self Parking (Which is pointless for me) and Winter Pack (Heated Screen, washer jets and seats). And then he only did 20k miles in it before part-exchanging it for a new model exactly the same spec in the same colour.

Nice looking Octavia, the bi-xenon's and dark fog lights set if off very well. Heated screen and seats are rare options but a must have for me. Apart from the LED rear light option it's my perfect spec.

Looks like the previous owner was a big bloke, that seat bolster has taken some abuse :D

Rear LED's might be something I do, they are not that expensive and easy enough to code.

Previous owner wasn't a big chap but elderly, he's on Facebook :) . To be honest my wife has a similar issue, has to sit on the bolster to get out and she's only 5'2 and skinny but has back problems. Tried a VRS and she couldn't get out of the seats at all.
