power outlets

I'm about to spend the afternoon trying to work out if the USB port and cigar lighter have failed as neither were charging my phone on the 6 hour drive from Barry yesterday - does anybody know if they share a common supply or fuse or anything like that ?

You’ve done the obvious, change the cable first before ripping the trim apart?

I tried three different usb cables yesterday - the joys of being an IT Geek on the road. Ended up with the phone on the back seat and a cable running through to the cig lighter socket in the boot.

Plugging the phone in to the USb in the dash used to cause the car to recognise it as a media source but that's stopped happening. The console cig socket was working last week, I ran a battery charger of it, but the charger cable that was working from the boot socket won't run from the console which made me wonder if the sockets in the console both take their power from a single source?

Sometimes the USB socket does not have sufficient output to charge my Android- if it is using too much power. I can tell from the phone menu if it is actually charging. The 12V socket seems more usable, but less pretty.

The USB is powered from the infotainment ssystem not from the same fuse as the 12V socket in the centre console.

Turns out the 12v socket is working, but the centre contact was corroded,  not enough to stop the AA battery charger working, but the phone charger has a much smaller central pin than the battery charger and wasn't making contact. I can live with that, trying to sort the USB port is too much hassle

Note to self..... If you try to clean centre contact in 12v socket with a wire brush, be prepared for sparks......

Use contact cleaner carefully next time. Or an eraser at the end of a pencil, insulating the metal band.

Hope it is ok now. :wondering:

I tested my Android with the Google  sat nav on today, a different Poundland lead plugged into the USB, and it had 100% charge after 30 miles. So maybe check your leads and the contacts.
