Removable tow hitch photo

Featured Replies

Hello all,

does anyone happen to have the removable factory tow hitch? Some time ago, I went to connect mine up, took the hitch from the spare tire area of my 4x4 estate and noticed there was no hold on the bumper for the hitch.

Turns out the previous owner had a small bender and got a new plastic skin, but put the standard one on since it was a bit cheaper. Naturally he didnt thing this was useful information.

So, now I need to cut a hole in the bumper, but I am not totally sure where to cut it.

If anyone has a photo the underside of theirs, i would very much appreciate that. I was not able to google-fu that so far.

The cutout is marked on the inside of the bumper. You might need to wipe it clean to see it. The plastic in the removed section is thinner. It's bigger than you might expect.

I don't have a photo owing to me getting rid of the Mk2 in April, but we had the factory tow bar, and its basically a big square cut in the lower centre of the bumper.  Its large to accomodate the swing down electric connector.  Sorry - no photos I'm afraid :(

Thanks for the replies gents

I have a westfalia detachable on mine if you still want a picture and it's what you're after?

As above, you can see where to cut on the inside.

no worries. I pocked my head in there while up on the ramp. Way bigger than i thought it would need to be.

I have the factory detachable one but I'm not at home currently - can do a photo tomorrow when back home in Suisse if you need it...
