Dpf light &weird random noise

Featured Replies

Hi all, dpf light came on today whilst the car was idle for few mins, revs went high then as soon as i set off (few mins later after the dof light turned on) it went off about 30 seconds later! Its a 1.6 diesel 2010 manual with 190k on clock. Thinking of taking it to VAG for a regen.

Also car is making a very nasty noise sometimes when idle I have attached a video and please let me know if it could be (if possible) by listening to the noise. Thanks.

ps I know the car needs a valet badly!! Haha

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe as simple as a faulty sensor? DPF light shouldn't disappear that quickly. As it appears, you have to drive for some time not 30 seconds.

Forced regeneration is needed when it has got DPF light + other lights (engine management + glowplugs) and it's in the limp mode. I think that it might not be useful in your case.

190,000 miles or kilometres?

If it's miles and the original DPF then I'd be preparing for having to source a replacement DPF.

Hi thanksnfor the reply gents, yes i was thinking the same thing too, the car was put on diagnostics which showed 16grams of carbon soot in dpf which I have been told isnt really high. I have however got a temp sensor light on for circuit 2 but that is somewhere in the wiring though.

16g is the equivalent of 30k miles, so I would say your car is on it\s second DPF.  Has your car had the emissions fix?

Check your exhaust temperature sensor, if it's a dpf configuration similar to the 2008 vRS, that faulty sensor can cause regenerations at anytime regardless of temperature, it's not the most expensive fix but at that miles I replaced mine at 110,000 miles and it was basically melted lol.
