Screenwash consumption

Featured Replies

Hi all

First post here, i bought a new Octavia 1.4TSI DSG estate back in March and really like the car except for one thing. Every couple of weeks i have to put upto  4 litres of screenwash in the car. I hardly ever use the washers in fact I have consciously avoided using them.

There are no puddles under the car and it is not fitted with headlamp washers

Anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks

That's not normal. I'm doing about 5000 miles per year and the screen wash is lasting all year. I've never had to refill it between services. (I don't have headlamp washers either.)

Must have a leak, I have never used 4ltrs of screen wash in a whole year never mind every couple of weeks; especially as you say you are consciously not using that function.

As above, definitely not normal. During the darker winter months with salt on the road, I tend to empty it in about 2-3 weeks or about 1500 miles. Headlight washers go through the stuff quickly.

Now we are in summer with no salt and headlights rarely on, I'm probably emptying it every 6 weeks, or about 3k miles.

if you have headlight washers could be a reason as well. It uses a lot of water, and i was refilling pretty often.

I disabled it...  and now I forgot the last time I refilled the washer liquid.

best thing to do is brim it and then park in on top of a load of cardboard. Leave it overnight and if you come back down the in the morning, you'll know there's a definite leak.

+1 for above. Do this to detect a leak.
