LeMans 24 2018 as it happens

I'm likely to have the race on, keeping one eye open.

Whilst no lmp1 action, beyond Toyota not winning which has to be worth a bet, I'll be doing briskoda server, software upgrades.

What are you hoping for from the race weekend ?

Some peace and quiet to actually watch some of it????

Peace and quiet, whats that again?

You'd think Toyota could just cruise round for the win, but no. The car is designed to do a laptime and only a few seconds off the pace will overcharge and knacker the batteries. So they've got to run as fast as if Porsche were still there. So we could be well close to a privateer win for Rebellion or SMP!

:) found the live motul stream, well live in 27 mins.

Also there is one from ford both on youtube, the latter might be biased ;) But the Gt's normally have a good race :D

Linkie??

I usually end up watching it on a tablet courtesy of my FIL's Sky subscription...   but have also been looking for Roku channels etc.

Alonso finally caught up and took the lead by 10 seconds.

BMW's going well :)

I've been out whenever something interesting has happened. So having to listen to it, discussing on the radio lol...

Would not mind seeing Alonso on the restart after safety car, sounded quite nuts! Although he's only done two stints so far... So he'll be in tomorrow to 'win'. :D

Toyota say which ever car lead at the final pit stop will be let win (They hope it will be Alonso of course for the hue publicity) Rebellion-TVR for 3rd and 4th maybe.

Let us hope Nissan-Renault, or PSA or some big player get in to LMP1 racing again, petrol-hybrid or maybe full hybrid with Super-Capacitor or the like.

Lopez spun the #7 recently, increasing the #8 lead.

Team plans to have the 2 fastest drivers, Nakajima in #8, Kobayashi in #7,  for the final stints.

Well done Toyota, finally able to produce speed and reliability at the 24 Heures du Mans.

Yes, Yes yes, good for them.  Speed wasn't an issue for the win I guess, but not far off distance record. Thankfully everything kept turning to the end. Despite the 'scare' which was odd as noone in the pit looked 'scared', not proper face of doom like previous moments.

Dempsey will sleep, eventually a happy chap... a lot of emotion in that bottle.

And Toyota had enough luck this time. Previously works 3 or 4 car teams have been knocked down to one by accidents and unreliability so entering just 2 cars didn't guarantee success.

No. But the rules benefitting hybrids just about did (assuming they could get to the finish, which I acknowledge is a feat in itself).

Those rules haven't stopped the hybrids winning for the last few years either have they? Indeed the equivalency was much closer this year than any previous.

And what about in any class where one team wasn't given a 1 or 2% handicap advantage over the others?

Porsche v's Aston Martin in GT Pro?  5 seconds a lap in qually, the BoP changes didn't make any difference for the race. Aston were destroyed.

The ACO makes the rules up as it goes along at Le Mans, often to favour French cars over the years.

Some Live Coverage of 24 hours of Le Mans 2019

Luv the look of the Corvettes

Post-Qually Balance of Performance changes have hobbled the GT pole sitting Aston.  The Corvette and Porsche both did it on the straight without too much trouble. Slow Pit work then dropped it back about another 4 places.

Astons now 11th and 17th in GTE Pro

Penalties for Porsche and Ford in GT Pro have put Corvette out front alone but Brit James Calado was inching up towards the leader, halving the lead down to 7 seconds in the last hour driving the #51 Ferrari

Calado and co. win GTE Pro in #51. That might get him some brownie points back from his employer after he crashed one of their F1 cars at the last test.

Savage luck for the LMP # 7 crew though, 2 punctures in 2 laps with an hour to go.
