Newer car like mine, but a 230

Featured Replies

I saw a 230 which is a 2016 for sale and seems pretty well priced, contemplating the thought of selling mine

Same colour less miles not too far from me !

It has the extremes too whilst mine has refurbed Geminis that don't really stand out.

Only different is it may not have Canton ( could that be perhaps swapped over is it quite easy to remove?)

Question is how much difference is there for the VAQ ediff compared to staying this car and chucking a few K at ? This car 220 seems its not really got much more potential for power without something for the drivetrain. Seems a bit squirmy on the road even with decent RS3 when pushed so its hard to equate to feeling sporty. Assuming the VaQ diff makes that much difference, I've never tried it. The Wavetrac etc get very good reports though as aftermarket fit.

I am thinking that money goes a long way to a new car without the need of messing with existing and easier to insure etc.

I could look at interest then in my car advertising up here, I have 2 other cars so not going to struggle without it for a while !

Any thoughts..........thanks :)

On a personal note, I would never buy the same car twice in a row unless the second was a facelift and never in the same colour as it would feel as though it hasn’t changed enough to warrant the purchase. I can’t help you with the

VAQ diff, but a Canton retrofit is no walk in the park. Looking at ways to improve my sound system lead me to Canton and luck would have it that I was offered a complete Canton system from another car. The amp would need CP removal to work and you’d have to get the right one first, the sub apparently isn’t all that good anyway but the speakers are slightly better and you get a centre one in the dash. I was hoping to use the Canton sub and speakers with a different amp, but as the speakers are higher impotence than the standard ones, they need the amp to drive them, and I’m not sure if an aftermarket amp would. As I’ve been offered the Canton sub so cheaply I may still consider fitting that, but it’s looking unlikely tbh. For me having had a Pre FL, I would wait for a 245 to come in budget instead :)

Or maybe a few years for a Superb 280 with 4x4 - the massive modified one with 11 second qtr times is very compelling :D

Too many thieving scrotes who like the R to go that route and I'd rather not anything VW.

That said if MG truly have the e-motion in the form it was represented and suggested to they can take into production by a few years that is far more compelling and more like the future of cars to me. Maybe I should do nothing then for now but for the sake of 4-5k didn't seem that much.

I could always do a colour change - my old fabia yellow is so forgiving - black - what a pain in the arse !

They'll need an amp and a constant supply of wee blue pills if they're impotence is high.

I think you meant impedence. ha ha.

Spell check is great isn't it. :)

F....... autocorrect!!! How did I not spot that once I proof read it :o:D

I don't think the VAQ diff makes a huge difference. It helps with applying power in cornering but virtually no difference in a straight line. Several reviews of the VRS with the VAQ diff also noted it's effect appears to be noticeably weaker than in other VWG applications (GTI, Cupra etc.) Not sure if this can be changed with VCDS to bring a VRS to the same setting.

Canton retrofit is probably not worth the time and effort either. It's good for a stock system but not perfect, and the amount of trim removal and time that would be needed are pretty significant. If going to that effort, a custom system might be more straightforward (no CP issues) and likely provide better results.

I'm not sure a slightly newer 230 would offer much more than what you have already to be honest.

Thanks very much, I think it would be better as 4x4 then, noted.

Also I think the feedback here helped me to realise, black is amazing, but usually looks dirty or dusty due to constant cleaning ! Never again :)

I think the fact that mapped 2wd don't seem to be exceeding 5s whilst I know that one "journey Superb" was taken to 500hp capable of doing Golf R 3.1 esque mapped times suggests this is the biggest difference between the models

(despite some octy fan boys going on about how the Superb 280 ain't all that etc). I won't bother with that then thanks :)

The engine in the petrol vRS is the same EA888 as the one in the Superb 280. You could start to make big power mods on your car as well if you wanted to, but a Superb is more of a sleeper. The benefit of the 280 is all wheel drive. I don’t need such a big car, but I’d happily have a Superb :D

Does the superb have the IS20 or IS38 turbo tho?

The larger power variants have IS38 I believe. The superb unit and the turbo etc. are the same as Golf R/Cupra etc.

Superb 280 with the kind of tuning I saw achieved would be.......well......superb :D Its got far more going for it out the box in ripeness for tuning than the Octy vRS, so as mentioned I could be tempted if nothing else sways but I'd have to be looking at seriously discounted used purchase - with some miles on it perhaps.

Only other idea that is equally attractive is trying to squeeze a TFSI into my beloved Fabia like these ideas :D  But I just think that would struggle to get the power down.....
Stupidest or most hilarious thing I have ever seen is a Nova with 400hp that was just skipping down the track against cars like Monaro v8s. Still had them mind !
