Is this a good deal??

Featured Replies

Hi all, have just been looking through the previous thread but wanted some individual opinions please. I have just had a quote for a 1.5tsi SE DSG 4x4 7str inc met paint and towbar fitted which comes to £25,200 when the finance is paid off straight away. Is this a good deal or should l push for more?, we have never bought a new car before so are in unfamiliar territory! we also want the front parking sensors and 5yr warranty so are hoping that they will add those in for free when I phone the chap tommorow. Thankyou!!!!

What is the list price including options?

You should be aiming for 15% off that.

thanks silver, i havent got access to the current price list for the 1.5tsi, l was getting carwow offers on the 1.4tsi of 23.5k - 24.5k for the basic car and l do know the towbar is circa £900 and the met paint is £565 so on the face of it doesnt seem too bad. However it is end of quarter and l saw a 2.0tsi SEL 4x4 dsg 7str on drivethedeal for 27200 inc met paint and towbar. So this has got me thinking how much more realistically can l expect to get? With the pricing not online yet for the 1.5 its a bit of a pain.

?

Who is quoting you a price for a 1.5TSI SE DSG 4x4, and when do they say you could receive delivery of one?

  • Author

dealer in lincolnshire, delivery early december!!!!

Here you go.

Unfortunately Skoda haven't yet pulled their finger out and updated their pricing to reflect the new 1.5 TSI engine, so let's take the 1.4 TSI 150PS for now.

1.4 TSI 150PS, SE, DSG, 4x4, 7-Seats = £28,985

Metallic paint = £575

Tow bar = £860

Minus £2,000 deposit contribution

TOTAL = £28,420

Minus 15% discount.

TARGET = £22,736

Given the current lead-times its unlikely you'll get the car before the end of September, therefore you won't qualify for the £1,000 test drive incentive. However it is likely there'll be further offers for Q3 (announced at the end of July) that you'll be able to take advantage of.

I'd be tempted not to try and use the front parking sensors and extended warranty as bargaining chips, it'll likely overly complicate the negotiations. Spec the car up as you want it, take that as the start and go from there.

Sign up to carwow and request a quote (takes 48 hours or so for the dealers to respond with their prices), but the lowest price you get there will be key to getting the price down...

Don't forget price rises come in on the 3rd July with rises in optional extras as well.

  • Author

thanks guys, with those figures it does seem that l should be able to at least get the 5yr warranty and front sensors.

  • Author

oops didnt read the last part of your post silver, as far as spec goes that is it really, the only other thing we want/have a use for would be folding trays in the back and some mats. dont get me wrong a panoramic roof would be nice but i cant see that being thrown in. We do also have a limit of 25k so the warranty/parking sensors need to be included in that figure.

Don't forget a spare wheel!

  • Author

well reminded!, i guess if you dont ask you dont get so l will find out tommorow :)

For what you asked I would be looking for 23k .. shop around ..

Given that demand for cars for delivery after September will outstrip supply will Skoda or others have to discount them.

Pre September delivery / registration then yes they will be needing to shift those with the WLTP.

So with 5yr warranty, spare wheel, front sensors the price is now 26200. I think we might have to wait until the Carwow prices have been updated, waiting for a price from another dealer as well. He did say he is going off the old prices but it will be fixed when they change so there is a further saving there. I think half the problem is that there is very little 2nd hand petrol engined stock and that is what the demand is for. Will keep updated.

Just a quick update, we managed to find one in morecambe, a 1.4 4x4 dsg 7str with front parking and heated seats with 99 miles on it only registered in march, they are going to fit the towbar all in for a smidgen over 25k so we are really pleased! what a good result, thanks for the help everybody much appreciated! :)

Carfile are offering the 1.4 TSI 150 SE 4x4 5dr DSG [7 Seat] for £25994.80 (assuming you have taken a test drive for the bonus). Take off the £2000 PCP contribution (pay off within 14 days and keep) and it drops to £23994.80.

Nice garage in Mansfield, bought 2 from them via Carfile since march 2017.

Well done -congrats!

UK prices are depressing for an Irishman. That money will just about get you the 5 seat, base model, 1.4 Tsi 125hp in manual. No extras of any kind either!

The car you describe would be over £42,000 here. I'm definitely jealous!

l feel your pain Robin! I know what your saying skidpan however that is basically what l was getting with carwow and with the towbar and sensors added it was at £25,200 with a wait until at least december, l also wouldnt be eligible for the extra 1k test drive off as l wouldnt be inside the date window. all in all we got the car we wanted for the right price - no one seems to spec a tow bar from new and when you trawl through autotrader etc you can see thry are keeping their prices due to the delay in getting new cars on the road, all in all it was very frustrating!!!! supply and demand yadda yadda

What towbar are they fitting, an aftermarket one, or are they retrofitting the factory towbar?

There are a couple of threads on here with the problems owners have had with retrofitting towbars. Getting the coding right so that all the systems work properly is important. If the car isn't local and you experience issues after getting it home it could be a real pain trying to get it sorted.

Just make sure you and the dealer are both clear about what is being fitted.

Hi silver it's a retrofitted factory tow bar going on, the garage is a skoda dealer so fingers crossed everything should be right, picking the car up on Saturday:)

Great news, and fantastic deal. For the dealer to do this will cost them a lot of money, not only in terms of component costs but the labour / time involved to fit. I'd say retrofitting the factory spec tow bar would cost Joe Public well in excess of £1,000. Less for the dealer to do off his own back but still a significant cost to them.

I'd still be looking to make some further enquiries with the dealer prior to collection. Take a read of this thread (below). It is thought that the required cooling system upgrades apply to the 125PS version of the 1.4 TSI engine only, but items like the grill, radiator and alternator are rumoured to be upgraded in the factory if the tow bar is fitted.

I'd want clarity from the dealer exactly what it is they're fitting...

Hey silver thanks for the tip, l was under the impression the cooling/alternator upgrades were for the 125 version too but now l come to think of it l cant remember what l based this on. I do remember when we were talking about the towbar the chap mentioned that it would be included in the warranty but i will double check the extra bits are being sorted if required :)

  • Author

Hi folks just a quick update, it seems the cooling upgrade isn't required for the 150ps engine so that's all fine, l picked it up yesterday and we are really happy with it, it's almost unbelievable value for money!, I still wasn't sure until I picked it up whether the engine would be man enough but it really is sublime! Wifey is fuming as the insurance company weren't open yesterday avo so she will have to wait until tommoro to drive it hehe. The tow bar works  beautifully but haven't used it yet and will have to wait until 1k miles to really give the engine the beans :) however........ couple of niggles already - wipers don't work unless the car is moving and one of the door protectors has committed hair Kari already, trip to the local dealers already then  300 miles on the clock grrr oh and a scratch on the rear 3/4 panel I never noticed when I picked it up - sigh. Do most folk add some paint protection of their own if they haven't had the dealer do it?

Just to add it has a 69ah battery if that means owt regarding towing upgrades?

The battery looks to be the same regardless of engine, the 1.4 TSI is mine, just need to know if the member with the 2.0 TSI has a factory tow bar fitted...
