SAFE lock tech details

Featured Replies

Hello,

Is there someone who can explain in technical details how central locking and central locking SAFE works?

The image uploaded is from rear left door control unit:

- V163 - central locking motor (SAFE)

- V214 - central locking motor

Questions:

- why 2 motors

- how the motors are controlled when locking from remote and how are controlled when locking using button inside car.

My intention is to try and electrically SAFE lock one or both rear doors while driving so that my kid cannot open them. I know I can lock doors manually, but then I have to open doors myself. I want a button I can lock doors when driving and unlock them when stop.

Locking them from button inside dosen't work allways, kid is playing with door lock and it unlocks if you pull twice.

I know some VW cars have this child safe button on drivers door, next to window lock.

Thank you.

Irinel.

Does the car not have child locks on the rear doors? Like a plastic screw head that you put the car key in to and turn

Yes, it does. But I have to go out and open the door from outside. Lots of times my wife is in the back too and I got tired of opening the doors... :))

Ah - I see - can't help you with that - i think you'd need to rewire the rear door locks separately from the central locking system to achieve what you're looking for.

This is what I'm thinking. I just need to know how it works.

I think one motor is the normal door lock, the second motor is a deadlock to add extra security.

If you start adding extra wiring to control one of these motors, I'd expect issues... You're either going get error codes or the car will attempt to reunlock the door when it sensors the motor has moved.

You mention other VW cars have the feature you want, are these PQ35/PQ46 platform like your Octavia? If they are, I'd start by finding some autoscans and wiring diagrams to see how they work.

Cannot remember the VW car I saw the option but I don't think extrawires were used but rather it is controlled using LIN protocol.

I cannot add extrawires to control motors 'cause like you said I'm more than sure it will cause errors in the sistem.

Bottom line, I will keep being the valet for my wife and kid.

Thanks.

I think it's the VW Sharan you might have seen it on. Although it's probably PQ35/PQ46, it has sliding doors so they might be quite different to yours?

The MQB Audi A3 seems to have it too :)

Does anyoane have a driver door wiring diagram from a VW Sharan and maybe an Audi A3?

Thank you.
