You should buy a genuine VCDS lead and use the genuine software.

This one works fine so thanks :)

Might I say, if it works just fine then that doesn't mean it's legitimate. You've already been relegated to "Pirate" status on Ross Techs own forum for using illegal cloned hardware, so asking the same question here doesn't legitimise the product.

Rosstech have done a great job with VCDS and every cloned/pirate cable is a potential sale they've lost plus the additional cost of trying to prevent future releases being copied.

While I appreciate $200 or £225 isn't an tiny amount, it's similar to a set of tyres or a few tanks of fuel for most cars. Compare that to the cost of garage diagnostics or licensing for official Skoda tools. Genuine interfaces also tend to hold their resale value and some will even even sell for more than their original purchase prices...

There are plenty of people that are willing to do a scan for free or beer tokens too.

Anyway, if you have any ideas to help the OP, feel free to share them :)

I dont have a lead but if i were to get one i would leave Ross -Tech alone, as i cant see why i would want to pay import duty on software and a home made cable, that will be outdated in 5 minutes!

You can buy the lead from their UK distributor Gendan to avoid paying import duty.

The software is free to update for as long as you own the cable - and gets updates several times a year so it's always up-to-date.

Older cables not fully working on newer cars will affect ANY cable because VAG do not care about backwards compatibility when they make changes to their car systems.

If you want to save garage diagnostic fees then IMHO the best (by a long way) route is a genuine Ross-Tech cable and VCDS - I've been a user for 18 years and have saved many, many times the cost on diagnostic fees - and earn quite a lot of beer tokens from other VAG owners.

Are all those errors permanent? Will they reappear if you erase them?

You clearly have Ross Tech and the Pirates confused. A genuine lead doesn't attract import duty if bought from a UK reseller, and as for being outdated in 5 minutes... The latest version of VCDS covers pretty much every vehicle in the VAG stable for now and the forseeable future. The previous generation cables have covered every vehicle (bar the latest generation) for the past 10 - 12 years or so.  The software is updated for every new vehicle which comes out, and is free for all genuine customers to download and update.

The pirated cables? Well, they're home made quality, and the software cannot be updated to cover future advances in vehicle technology, so buying one of those will cripple any futureproofing that Ross Tec supply as standard.

Hoorah a response from the forum! thats what skoda502016 wanted in the first place. Was it so hard. Just because he didnt have the right lead, (its up to him if he wants to wreck his car using the wrong lead).

People come here for information and help. I know i do lol. If you don't want to help don't reply.

Oh and if someone could be bothered to create a spreadsheet with the adaptions gathered in the forum people would'nt be asking silly questions on how to do VCDS adaptions (could save a lot of heartache).

And who do you suggest we should help? Someone who buys a stolen product, or the manufacturer of the product without whom the product wouldn't exist?

Feel free to go ahead and do so, by all means. Do something constructive rather than complaining other people aren't doing what you think they should?

Who makes you the VCDS police ? im guessing by your response you are one of the "underground forum illegal VCDS spotters" good on you but as i said if you cant help (or wont in your case) dont respond

I'm not the VCDS Police. I don't spot for Uwe and inform him of people using pirate copies of the product he's spent a lot of years developing. He does that himself, which is where we came in right at the second post on this thread. Uwe wouldn't help him on the VCDS forum, so why not pop over there and ask him why not?

So, just remind me because I can't be bothered to reread all this thread. What have you done to help the original poster out with his problem? I can't remember it being anything of great note...

There ARE several walkthroughs and spreadsheets available on several forums, however many of these are no longer updated due to issues with people using them with hacked software or different types of software and then running into problems.

Those who have bought genuine VCDS tend not to help those with hacked versions as they want to protect their investment, who will roll out the free updates if Ross-Tech decided to cease trading because the revenue coming in no longer covered the R&D costs for updated software (they buy and hire new cars for this reason).

Nobody is forcing you to buy a genuine interface (or any interface at all) but pleaseeeeee do not come on here or other forums and bitch when you do not get free support.
