Hi Courty,

Yep.

You open the un-zipped folder and copy the entire contents as-is to the Skoda SD Card.

I'm presuming here that you copied the old data from the Skoda card to your pc first, then quick formatted the card using a 4Kb block size (4096 bytes) first??

If not, you need to do this first before copying the new data to the card.

Hope this helps,

Zaph

Yeah, thankfully I’ve created a back up.

Formatted the card and all.

Think I added the two folders rather than the one ‘map’ folder.

In the process of uploading one folder to the card now, so I’m holding my breath it works

  • The "hidden secure data" is stored on a separate part of the card that is not affected by the format. It is quite literally "hidden" and can't be seen by the computer doing the formatting.

  • Exactly this, I'm pretty sure there are no magic partitions or hidden data involved, it's just the SD CID that denotes a 'Skoda' SD card or not.   The SD CID should be one-time programmable

My updated card (updated last Sunday) only has the maps folder and the md5 checksum hash in the root of the SD card.

Don't forget to 'Lock' the SD Card again before putting it back in the Nav unit.

Hope this helps,

Red too - here's hoping for this season ...

Used to live in Aigburth.  Took my driving test around Walton Vale (many moons ago!)

I wouldn't have thought so. The Satnav is just a computer and the map data is just a set of files the the Satnav computer reads and interprets to display routes.

If you are worried about this then you could always make a backup copy of the original map data (which I recommend in the procedure anyway). If there are any problems in future then you could go back to the original Satnav data simply by copying your backup data back onto the SD card again.

I have the Columbus MIB1 and as far as I know there is no way to take a backup?

Have you taken the SD card out of the car and copied the files onto your computer? This creating a backup folder?

Or do Columbus not have SD?

It has SD, but maps came preinstalled on unit, and there was no SD card in the car when I got it.

Have you put your VIN into the update portal to check for any available updates? https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com

My '17 vrs doesn't have an SD card with maps on it either, but the portal describes how to update them with an SD card for when the maps are updated again in November.

Yes, but that's not the relevant.

Sorry, I figured since it shows me how to update my maps with a different SD card (not one already in the car) that it would answer your issue.

No problem. I updated the map, and hopefully there will not be a problem down the road.

There is Amundsen MIB2 (Discover Media) update on the VW site. But this time there are packages of different countries. There is no single map of Europe.
Variant 4 is damaged file. Variant 5 doesn't include all countries that are shown on picture.

Thanks a lot, it worked fine for my MIB1. Skoda portal was telling me not update available (I had 2018).
