Skoda Connect: No Discount

Recommended Posts

Like many others on this forum, I have been plagued with Skoda Connect problems over most of the last year.  My phone uses the EE network which was particularly badly affected, as registered with and confirmed by Skoda themselves.  However the problems now seem to have been resolved, at least for me.

My first year's (lack of) connection was free with my new car, but I've recently received an email asking me to pay a subscription if I want to keep it.  I reasoned that, since I've been unable to use the service for most of the last year, Skoda UK should offer me a discount.  So I asked for one.  Answer: No - this is the response I got from one of their customer relations people:

"Unfortunately, there is no option to temporarily freeze or extend the services without a charge, once the first year of the services expire. The charge is implemented by the ŠKODA parent company and cannot be waived or reduced. The cost of extending the services after the first year are currently: Infotainment online: 63.00 GBP per year"

Not happy obviously.  Has anyone else who's had the same issues been more successful in getting a discount from Skoda UK?

I will not pay more than a couple of quid for something that should be free. So I won't be renewing. If everyone, and I suspect most people do, say no, then Skoda might get the message, or perhaps they will just Jack the price even higher.

Only used the connect app a couple of times to see if it works, the novelty of checking whether my car is locked remotely has worn off.

Doesn't it also include the invaluable real time traffic information too? Even though I can also connect via Android Auto, sometimes I just don't bother and would otherwise miss out.

I would kick off on Social Media - I will certainly be kicking off if they try and charge me, having gone to the expense of investing in an O2 dongle to overcome the EE xdebacle, in spite of having a generous data allowance on my EE phone.

Just as well google maps will be on CarPlay soon then! No Way I'm paying for the use of that satnav, when it regularly tells me to pull off at a junction, then straight back on at the same junction! TBF, traffic etc and the basic system should be free anyway. and none of the other options is available on my car.

Really? Where did you see that? I'd rather Waze be allowed TBH.

Sorry what is the problem with ee? I have to re tether my iPhone every time I get in the car!!! Does the o2 dongle work ok as a hotspot? I thought it was only the Skoda carstick that worked???
