What is the best looking F1 car ...

Featured Replies

... in your lifetime. Results are immaterial.

With the F1 season in full flow but failing to really stimulate my imagination, I thought I would throw this one into the mix.

I love the simplicity of the 1975 Ferrari 312T:

Although I find these 2 similarly compelling:

The 1990 Leyton House CG901:

And the 1991 Jordan 191:

Any other suggestions?

Love the Jordan 191 (or 911 as it was called first) but never liked the CG901 above. It lacked the purity of shape (and colour scheme) of the earlier March 881.

This also scored more than triple the points the 891 and 901 managed together.

^^^^^ 312T is lovely but the high air boxes weren't that pretty. The subsequent T2 is my favourite 70's Ferrari.

I think the JPS Lotus 72 / 79 may be the best looking cars of the 70's.

The Lotus 72 was a very effective car but I don't think it was good looking, apart from the airbox which is a beautiful shape. The 79, though, is very nice.

And the March 881 is a stunner!

And this is a fugly airbox that makes the Ferrari version look positively svelte:

Loved the 6-wheel Tyrell.

But then I always did like something different from the crowd.

That Ligiet was called the teapot I think. Tyrrell made some iconic cars 005 006 P34 but none were beautiful to me.

^^^^ that BT42 doesn't look really great, but it developed in to the BT44, and the stunning looking Martini BT44B

Lots of fans of the 70's here, but what could be more elegant than this:

A sharknose Ferrari perhaps? But I did say in the opening thread "In your lifetime" :-)

Well my lifetime goes back to 62 so the Lotus 25 is in.  The sharknose (61) isn't remotely as good looking to me.

Generally the one that wins the race on Sunday is the best looking one for the sponsors.:tongueout:

Of the current crop, some of this years colour schemes are quite horrible - Racing Point, Mclaren, Williams

or otherwise look very downmarket with the plague of new brand X sponsors - the Williams, Haas, Racing Point cars look like back of the grid refugees from Indycar or F2 sponsored by big names ROCKIT, RICH ENERGY, SPORTPESA - hardly the blue chip partners Liberty are looking to attract to F1.

Line 1 - Results are immaterial! :-) :-) :-)

I'll find pictures later but I recall some of the early Shadow's were fine looking machines. DN3 5 & 7.

Thought the Tyrrell was the only 6 wheel F1 car before it was banned from competing.

March, Williams and Ferrari had a go too. Pretty sure Tyrrell packed it in voluntarily after Goodyear stopped developing its bespoke front tyres.

@shyVRS245 @camelspyyder - Well, it never turned a wheel in competition, but March described their 6-wheeler (6x4 using 6 normal for period front tyres) as their most successful F1 car ever, because of the licence fees they got from the Scalextric model.
