boot release problem

Featured Replies

forgive me for posting multiple questions here, I'm desperately trying to stop this car deteriorating, and you guys have always been a great help :)

yesterday the boot release started acting up. when you press it, it make a double 'clank', rather louder and metallic sounding than the usual noise of the lock releasing. When closing the boot, it's evident that it's still 'open' as in, it doesn't grab the catch, rather like closing your door whilst holding the handle out, it locates correctly, but isn't held. Looking at the lock part on the boot door, it looks ok... but then I didn't examine it precisely before. in order the get the boot to close and hold shut properly, if I hold it open, and press the release again, then close it, it usually works. Any ideas. on this problem ?

many thanks

Hi Paul,

You don't state what year, trim, engine yours is (is usefully added into your "profile", saves having to type it out every time you post.)

I had this happen on my 07 plater, prise back the rubber gaiter that connects all the hatch wiring plus rear screenwash pipe at upper LHS, you may find some wires that have broken completely, others with split wiring.  My local garageman did a temp fix by soldering a new short length in, and taping all the "iffy" wires.

I then went online and found a German made repair kit, company is SENCOM, part number SKU 888913, cost May 17 was E58.67, or £49.51, they didn't charge the quoted 10 Euros extra for P&P, must be older stock they want to shift.

Part description "SenCom Kabelbaum Reparatursatz Skoda Roomster (5J) Hecklappe" Website www.sencom-kabeltechnik.de

My garageman found it an easy job to cut away the old gaiter, splice in the new cables one by one (they come with crimp connectors) using the supplied colour chart, and connect in the new push-fit screenwash pipe section, finally re-clip the new gaiter to the body and hatch.

Others have had weird random rear and other lighting etc faults caused through this fault, as apparently wires connect via something called a canbus, and messages get scrambled!

There's a pic of the kit on Sencom's website, it's beautifully made, and was a quick and cheap job to have it fitted.   No more dodgy hatch locking!

Hello Richard ,

I have had the same issue and purchased the kit from Sencom which arrived today. Your comment above seems to infer that you received some kind of colour chart. Is this the case? The cables in the kit do not match the ones on the vehicle. Wondering if I am missing something.

Thanks
