Rear centre console display is very dim, only just visible.  Any ideas on what the problem might be?

its an lcd display so it must be illuminated somehow, whatever kind of lamp - I suspect you would have to buy the whole thing to fix this!

LCDs have backlit displays.  Not a separate LED lighting it up.  You would have to replace the entire LCD unit to get the display back to normal.

Not always.

 

For example, the maxidot cluster in a MK2 Superb is an LCD lit by 6 normal SMD LED's sat behind it. If that were to dim, it's easy enough to replace the LEDs or LED driver to fix it.

 

As for the OP's issue, I suggest finding a decent electronics shop to take a look.

It's not locked in with the dash "dimmer" lighting control.

Thanks for all your replies.  Bit the bullet and bought a used unit as it was not too expensive.

Break the old one apart and take some pics so we can see its illumination method if you have time?

Hi PD Paul, got a similar problem. Is it easy to remove the display and where did you source the used one please?
