Octavia factory assembly

Nice! Worth a trip and tour of Mlada Boleslav if you're ever in the area. We ventured out of Prague last year for the day and it was pretty interesting.

More humans involved than I would have expected.

Thanks for sharing that - it was fascinating, eye opening & like watching poetry in motion !

You are welcome, I stumbled on it when looking for something else but enjoyed watching it too.

Well that was interesting - those workers look more robotic than the robots - no speaking, no smiling. OK it's all for the camera and it's probably not like that on the factory floor, but...

If it is a propaganda film, how many of you noticed the total lack of black faces? Where are the Asian faces? Do we see any Indians? Do we see any Sikh's ? etc.  I spotted one woman driving a forklift truck - where were the rest of them? To be honest this looks more like something produced by a far-right organisation - it's about as far removed from equality as I've seen.  (I was going to say 'as I've seen in a long time' but even those far right nutters acknowledge the existence of women).

I spotted quite a few women actually.

Have you been to the Czech republic? Not that many of asian/african-american origin that I've come across outside of Prague.

Erm, what?!

I've visited Mlada Boleslav and I didn't see anyone of those ethnicities or religions there.  It was predominantly white, local people. Not just in the factories and plants but in the town outside it also.

The Wikipedia stats for Czech Republic in 2011 show:

Ethnic groups (2011[4])
Religion
  • 44.7% undeclared
  • 34.5% non-religious
  • 10.5% Catholic
  • 2.1% other Christians
  • 0.7% other religions

If those ethnic and religious groups aren't in the Czech Republic in notable numbers, then the statistics would suggest it is also unlikely they are employed by Skoda and shown in a "propaganda" video. No far right agenda, just basics of the available population for the workforce.

Been to the Czeck Republic sevaral times and those are certainly not my observations. Mind you my obervations aren't 7 years old tho I would draw your attention to those figures include 26% unspecified and 44.7% undeclared.

And of course, the stats according to that video for the groups I mention are 0%.

Question is, was this a deliberate act by those commissioning the film? Well given that I can't see anyone talking and I can't see anyone smiling, I'd suggest yes - it's 100% choreographed. You've seen 'The Stepford Wives', this is 'The Stepford Husbands'.

My observations were early last year when I visited the same place in the video - nothing in the video jumped out as being significantly different from when I visited. Yes of course participants were more than aware it was being filmed, but apart from that I'm not sure people were selected and women/ethnic groups specifically excluded.

Just my opinion.

I thought it was a video on how skoda built cars, didnt realise it was a far right propaganda video as some seem to have mentioned.

Sounds like for some, they need to bus in some transexual disabled black female workers to fill a few quotas before the video is acceptable!

I identify as an Apache attack helicopter, and find that offensive.

I cannot believe, even in this utterly "PC daft world" we now live in, that someone (SCOT 5) would steer a fascinating video of CAR PRODUCTION, into a debate over diversity ! Could it be because, being a "Jock", he / she is being over sensitive and wishes to wave the "Braveheart" flag for Independence !?! C'mon SCOT 5, get a life , & enjoy the film for what it is, not what you wish to perceive.

^^^ Is he a Disc Jockey?

There were at least 5 women!

Regardless of who you think should/shouldn't have been on display, I guess the robotic nature of the employees was to portray a professional & efficient image of a high-tech, quality, dare I say "German-like" car manufacturer, shaking off the stigma that Skoda's are a poorman's form of transport.

They are so robotic and appear to be unable to bend at the knees that the quality control has become pathetic other than panel gap checking and nobody must have looked at the car and said that is a right fugly thing we turned out.

Did they employ someone deaf to drive the cars that do cross over the test surfaces or why do so many Skoda have clunking issues after they fit the transit block and they are then removed or not.  & Are the cars leaving at that point with 50psi in the tyres at that point?

Some of the robots looked mixed race, I dont know what all the fuss is about.

I know it's early but this comment is winning the internet so far today :D

In this PC world, we had a deaf guy turn up for an interview with his interpreter.  Now that all seems fair, no issue with that as many deaf people can lip read etc.

Its when you realise that 80% of the job was answering the phone you see the full futility of the situation.

To balance out this thread on the equality basis, maybe I should add this photo of a 'generic Scot' (sorry @Offski) to show just how narrow minded some people's posts appear to be.

Anyway, hopefully we can all move back on topic now?

Typo

Video does devote a fair bit of time to checking panel gaps and to be fair, much as I would criticise the current Octavia for ruthless cost cutting design at the design stage, I would acknowledge that panel gaps, on mine at least, are reasonably tight, very symmetrical and consistent.

This guy has the most important job in the whole factory. Don’t want to misfuel the car before it’s even left the factory.

Looks like you were born in 1958, if that is the case you are forgiven for not knowing in this PC world we live in the term you should use is Dual Nationality!
