Airbag fault light on... airbag ECU replacement?

Featured Replies

My car has had its airbag fault light on for some time now.

So far I’ve replaced the coil spring and the centre part of the steering wheel where the airbag is.

It then went into the garage who couldn’t clear the fault on their code reader - presumably something else still wrong. Granted the replacement parts I used were second hand, but I would think the chances of them being broken as well is unlikely.

so I’m guessing the next thing to try is the airbag ecu. Again, I know I can get a second hand one from eBay, is it worth trying it?

my fault code reader (I think) came up with an error for the airbag about voltage problem

I changed mine, it worked for a week then the light came back on and would not clear either. It was a loose connection somewhere in the airbag loom.

Airbag code is permanent once logged by the ECU, basically a flag gets set and you have to replace the ECU, unfortunately if the issue still exists the new ECU then gets trashed as well.

So it’s worth checking the airbag wiring loom? Where abouts is that located!

Thanks

Wild guess: mostly between airbag ECU and airbags?

Airbag faults for just defective parts can be cleared with vcds. Only once an airbag has actually operated is the code permanent
