Newbie looking for a cheap runaround

Featured Replies

Hi All

Moving back to the UK after being away for a number of years. As such, looking for a comfortable and economical mile muncher. My thoughts have turned to a Superb or Octavia. Ideally a 2.0 TDi DSG at least Elegance spec. Ideally no more than £1500, but might push to £2000 for something worthwhile.

Landing on the 19th so busy looking around at the moment. Anything I should look out for on these cars? How do I tell whether it has a DPF or not? Where else to look other than the usual, Autotrader and Ebay?

Thanks

Hi and welcome,

dpf's became a ' reguirement ' in 2010 ( I think ) so most Octavia's before '59 ' haven't got one but I think Superbs have them after ' 08 '

those the know will be along with a definitive guide I'm sure

I'd look for a 1.9tdi Octavia and do own one, really struggling to find a replacement as although I much prefer diesel cars now my milage is down to 8000 pa my next vehicle will certainly be petrol

good of luck with your search don't forget cars for sale on here

Ok, managed to find a car. 2005 '55' Octavia Elegance Tdi PD Manual. Great spec and in very decent condition for the age. Mileage is around 100k and a lot of work has been done recently including service, timing belt, water pump, glow plugs and a new turbo. It goes very well and I'm hoping it will last me a few years without costing too much to maintain.

Just trying to sort out insurance and will then go pick it up.

A warm welcome to the Forum!
