Oil filter changes on Mark Two Fabia

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2013 Fabia TSI estate which is going to be serviced by my local independent soon. Its only a minor service but it does involve a new oil filter of course. I have read on Briskoda about problems if the rubber sealing O ring is not removed from the housing cover and replaced with a new one which comes with the new oil filter. The old one sits just below the oil  level from memory and if it is not taken out it can cause oil  leakage and the engine is 100% oiltight  and I want it to stay that way!    I may have remembered incorrectly, that's what I think was said. I didn't bookmark this when I first saw it and I regret that. My independent is great but they do  service all makes and all marques and I want to make sure they know about this oil filter and its quirks. Have I remembered it correctly in its essentials?  I always give them a written note and will add the bit about the filter and the O ring once I am clear what I need to tell them. Yes, I do realise that the Skoda mechanic might already  know all  this but there is no way I am ever going to go to the main dealers again after the way I was treated in March 2018. Any one interested can find my earlier posts for details. I look forward to finding out exactly what I need to tell the garage and thanks to all Briskoda contributors in advance.

Just ask to see the old filter which should still have the two seals fitted, one* in the  sprung plastic carrier with the notches and another that sits on the metal can.

*the one that can be left behind

Tell them your request and concern before they service your car.

If you are telling a trained and qualified mechanic / technician what to do then why not just DIY your oil filter and oil change?
