Will my car now go up in value?

Featured Replies

So I’ve been watching and reading some of the horror stories as you guys wait for your cars or just cancel the order.   I’m still waiting for my replacement windscreen 2 months in.  But I’m interested in the edition not being continued.  So as that what I have, and they are clearly going to be a bit like hens teeth.  So for those of us who managed to grab an exclusive with the 1.5 petrol engine.  Do you think our cars will hold their value a bit better due to them now being rare?

No,

it has lost thousands already if you tried to trade it in today, same next year and in the years to come.

If a dealership gets it they will be telling potential customers, 'like hens teeth'.

Petrol 1.5 TSI's are not exclusive, they are coming back with a GPF, only the 'Edition' model that was available will no longer be.

No sadly not.

its a Skoda, not a Porsche 997 Turbo S.

Good luck though.

Midst the Job's Comforters, I'd ponder this.

Demand for a car holds up. But examples aren't being built.

Not going to do any harm, is it? :D

Back in 2010 I couldn't get a test drive of a MKII Octy Scout as they were flying out the dealerships. Was told when I asked for discount, "No. These cars sell themselves." Second hand prices  for year old ones were just about the same as brand new.

When my vehicle arrived I put its details into a few We Buy Any..... sites, most quoted £18.5k - £19k. In less than a week my near £24k (with options) rare and highly in demand vehicle had dropped approximately £5k.

Just as well I bought it via a broker for £18k.

This is my first new car, at first I did think about the instant devaluation of buying new but figured if I plan on keeping it for a long time (10+ years all being well) then why worry about it.

I’m not worried.  Just curious.   Since now the car I own is been replaced with a lesser spec I was  thinking perhaps it will hold on to it’s vskue a little better.  But since I won’t be buying another car for the foreseeable just asking what people’s thoughts are.  I know a friend on mine that had a scout and that held its vslue better than my Mondeo.  And mine was a better spec.

I predict that any Euro 6 Pre WLTP Petrol cars so ones without the GPF will not be on UK Roads in 2028, but only time will tell.

A scrappage scheme likely introduced to get the polluters off the roads long before what are new cars now are 10 years old.

I didn't mean to imply that you were worried, was more just my thoughts when buying the car.

The L&K will replace the edition

Please fill me in, what happens to Edition? Not seen before where manufacture get rid if trim during car's production cycle.

Seems to be a current fad, bring out a new model, have a top spec version with nearly all the options as standard, call it first edition (or similar).  Subsequently replace it with new trim with some changes and new name.

Skoda seems to then split the top version once production is bedded in.   As an example look at bigger Kodiaq, effectively got:

Scout (the rugged one)

Sportline (for the go-faster look)

L&K (the luxury one)

The exact specs vary, so depends on your preferences

Hopefully your plan will work, if you service it regularly with decent oil and as long as the cheap electronic components don't fail and cost more than the car to repair. Depreciation for most cars levels out to a slightly more palatable level after 3 years.

The Edition isn't a factory trim  "model". I think the Edition is actually a factory "Style"  trim level  with Skoda UK specifying a nice options package to make an "Edition" trim level for your UK market. They did this to have a "premium" spec until an L&K was rolled out.

The L&K model is usually described internally by Skoda as a "Style" trim base that has an "L&K luxury pack" added at the factory.

So how much nicer can L&K get over Edition? I would think Edition will be hard to top as it's high spec already.

Possibly:

ACC

Auto light assist

Family pack

Virtual pedal

heated front and rear seats

Park assist

Heated windscreen

Canton

Door scuff plates

Probably not a lot - which is why it does not make sense for Skoda UK to continue with the Edition.

I'd expect the black trim on the bumpers etc to get painted, some large, sexy and not comfortable alloys and "Laurin & Klement"  embossed seats with same on wing badges.

An electric memory passenger seat would be a nice option Skoda.

Brown seats.?

As long as it doesn't have a panoramic sun roof.

Why?

Out of interest you can always see what WBAC comes up with as they might offer, and you know that a Dealer is unlikely to be going much over £1,000 more than that.

Lets you see if 'Up in Value' holding value well, or just going the same way as most vehicles in the first year or 2 since first registered.

That's why I bought the SEL Karoq in metallic white discounted for £23,500. Predicted to be worth £11,000 at 4 years which is acceptable.

Great feature, you can always close it with black lining blind.

Did Steve McQueen once own it?  If not, then no.
