Flip keys

Featured Replies

Just bought a flip key off ebay, my original key has a black chip in the blade but the flip key does not, i take it that the black chip with the (w) on it is the immobiliser transponder, if so where is the transponder in the flip key, and where do you get the new blade cut, any advise welcome.

New blades can be got from a guy on ebay who will cut it from a digital image for £12. My dad used it no problem.

i bought 2 spare blades for £10 delivered and got them cut at a local place for £20 :) some places don't want to touch them and others just get on with it.

best of luck.

ok, I got the blade cut yesterday at a timpsons shoe repairer and key cutting spot, he only charged me £2.00, key works perfectly in all the locks.

I cannot get the remote to work at all,i have followed the instructions that arrived with the key and also the very sparce instructions in the owners manual.

My original keys say they are 434mhz and the one i bought from ebay said that it was also 434mhz, is there any other way to code the remote without resorting to the dealer, and how do you code the immobiliser, do i need vag-com and a laptop or will i be able to use my pda.

cheers

kevin

you'll need either a dealer or vag-com to do both parts mate. i watched lummox do my keys yesterday and it seems very easy but it is through vag-com. where abouts are you?

bengie,

I'am just south of the lake district, can i do the remote part myself, if so do you have any better instructions for setting up the remote.

Looking to get new new key coded too. I also bought the key from ebay (£29) and have had it cut. I have read the instructions how to code the control for the central locking but I need to code the transponder. I have Vag-Com myself, but the instructions on ross-tech website say that you need the dealer to give you a code. Not sure how willing the dealer will be to part with this code.

fluffy01016,

my car's a 2001 model tdi, did your remote code without problems, when yousay you have the vag-com, is that just the code reader or is that some form of software to use with a laptop ???

kevin

The dealer has to give you the code, although they are allowed to charge an admin fee. The code may be on a large key fob that came with the car or in the service book.

VAG-COM is software you use on a laptop to access the cars ECU.

Its quite easy to code the remotes via VAG COM

To code the transponder you need the security code for the car first and must code all keys at the same time,

so how much do the dealers charge for this service, I do have the large tag with the codes on

Just been on vag-com and found out how to code my key. got my 14 digit imobiliser no. now just got to find out how much the dealers want for the 7 digit skc, the workshop code and inporter code. once i've done that, the remotes can be done quite easily.

Then you could do it yourself if you have or get VAG-COM or if you know someone who has it who would do it for you.

I would imagine the garage would want at least 30 mins labour for the job.

7 digit skc,.

4 digit

If anyone in this area needs it doing i'd be more than happy to help.

well guy's,

been to main dealer today to have some warranty work done, and at the same time asked if they would code my new key to the car.

upon return i was told that the flip key ( 3 position remote) was not compatable to my 2001 octavia and so could not be done, even though it's a 434mhz, is this correct, as the chap on ebay recons that these keys are compatable to all skoda's 99 onwards.

kevin

It should work in some way, it might not operate the boot though.

not bothered about remote boot operation, just wanted to open the doors.
