Waterpump for mk1fabia 2002 sdi.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I am looking to do a cambelt and waterpump change as its a little overdue!

I have the cambelt, but apparently there are a couple of options for waterpumps on my fabia 02plate sdi.

Does anyone know how to figure out what part is required without having to start the job?

Many thanks for taking the time to read this...

Post (or PM) the last 8 digits of your VIN. There was a change during model year 2003. This page shows the chassis numbers with the two options, but you may need a little help interpreting it. https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2002-225/1/121-121010/ Model year 2003 would have started mid 2002, so yours might be affected by the change. If yours is an MY 2002 (first of those last 8 digits a 2 rather than a 3), then your water pump needs to be the first part number 045 121 011CX.

PM received. Yep, yours is an MY2002 car, which pre-dates the revision, so the 045121011CX part number will be right.

Hi,

Ive been trying to find part numbers for the timing belt kit, a few places ive looked show that some of the bolts are stretch bolts and are one use...

I would like to replace all tensioner/idler pullys but seem to hit a road block on getting the correct kit?

Anyone with ideas on the correct kit for my car? (Sdi 2002)  it would be nice to know the part numbers for each item but i would settle for knowing which kit is correct...

Thanks in advance for any help☺

There are two part numbers given, for change at 90000km and 150000km. I guess the latter has extra bits in it.

https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2002-225/1/109-109000/ second and third item 4's - 038198119F for the 90000km kit; and 038198119E for the 150000km kit.

I suggest you get the latter, and look up the contents that each aftermarket manufacturer supplies with their kit to see which bolts etc are supplied. You may well find that some kits come with more than others. Balance price against contents and maybe avoid manufacturers you've never heard of.

Genuine kit from Skoda appears to cost north of £200, so you possibly won't want to go that way.

Thanks for replying.

I managed to pick up a contitec set and febi waterpump for £117 delivered.

Hopefully they will be good enough quality.

I will try and follow the guide for changing the belt on here as the haynes manual is as clear as mud viewed through the thick end of a milk bottle.

Which guide is that?

Hi Wino,

I have got the same issue. Eurocarparts is showing two water pumps and its a bot confusing to find out which one to choose from. Skoda main dealership is not giving me the parts number and TPS wont also give me the parts number. Eurocarparts advisor over the phone was confused aswell as to what to advise.

So I am hoping that maybe you can help me as well. My car is Skoda Fabia 1.9sdi 2003 (ASY engine code) - Reg : GV53BXO if that helps ?.

I am not at home now....when  go back to my home in evening ...I will look into the log book to see the VIN number.

Thank you.

I think a 53-plate will be model-year 2004 probably, so I'm reasonably sure yours will be the part number ending in a J; but really need the VIN to check properly.

If the tenth digit of the VIN is a 4, it's definitely the suffix J part you want. If it's a 3, compare the final 6 digits with the numbers either side of the transition on that 7-zap page.

Impossible to tell from the picture but having got this far I'd just reflow the whole lot and also the black connector on the other end.

Hi Wino,

Thank you for your reply. I just got home now....a bit late...very busy day today. I checked the VIN Number on V5, MOT certificate and the dealer service book ( just to make sure I am not making a mistake). And it is :- TMBPF46Y833738651

The tenth digit is 3 and I at this point I am not understanding what am I supposed to compare the last 6 digits of my VIN 738651 with ? Because I don't see any similarities on the 7-zap page.

No problem, I'll just watch the end of this frame of snooker then sort you out. :)

The key to understanding the chassis numbers on the 7zap pages is to discard the first 6 digits of the VIN, then turn the 9th and eleventh digits into dashes. So your VIN would become 6Y-3-738651.

If you now look at the appropriate column on the 7zap page you can see that the first part number (ending CX) suits cars with numbers up to and including 6Y-3-628128; the second part number (ending J or JX) suits cars from 6Y-3-628129 onwards, including yours.

The same number ranges appear under the 'fitment detail' tabs on the ECP website.

I think the X as eleventh digit refers to cars built in Poland rather than Czech, which yours isn't/wasn't, so you can ignore those lines.

Thank you very much. You have been kindly very helpful.

P.S I am glad you like snooker.....I have a friend who plays professional snooker however he only won one game during the first week of this german tour and lost the one after. I am routing for him when the players go to india to play the indian tour.

I'll call Eurocarparts advisor and ask him to check which one has got 045121011J part number out of the two water pumps. ECP have got their own catalog numbers and in the fitment details they have got some weird numbers that doesn't help me understand...lolzz

With your help in finding out the P/N , it should be easy for ECP to tell me which one I need.

I'd buy a genuine one in your shoes, not much extra money for peace of mind.

really struggling for cash right now. Going through my alternative cancer treatment (paying myself). Off sick....get paid about £540 per month....a wife and two babies....the £400 grant macmillion gave me ….half of it went in gas and electric....other half will go into my alternative therapy....and I am here trying very hard to sort my  car and sell in a best condition...I don't know why I am spilling my story here...maybe its the time of the night ? lolzz

so trust me I would even take a free one if someone gives one...lol

on the other hand...I have gone through the service history first 5 years dealer service and then the rest independent...and I cont find any evidence of water pump replaced.....is it possible for the water pump to last for £170,000 miles ?

And it also makes me think if the water pump has lasted that long...should I leave it like that ? I don't know....I havnt bought it yet....but going to give ECP a call tomorrow and then buy it from their sister website (carparts4less) at £19 after online-discount.

If there's evidence of cam belt replacement then the water pump would have been replaced at the same time.

I'd be extremely surprised if the cam belt has never been replaced in 170k miles.

This just goes to show how unbelievably rubbish their 'Look up by reg number'  system is.  Yesterday, before knowing your reg number, I just put in your car details instead, and it gave me a choice of 4 results, two of which gave Polo VIN numbers in the 'fitment detail' section, and two the Fabia numbers, like on the 7Zap page.

Putting in your reg number instead, it gives just two results - just the ones with the sodding Polo VINs in the 'fitment details' sections!  no wonder you were struggling!

Anyway, going back to doing it with car details instead, I find this one with the relevant VIN details as per what we discussed with the 7zap page:

yeah cambelts have been changed and marked also in the service book....just wondered would have good to write down the water pump aswell….these small details makes things easier for new owners.
