Air conditioning problems

Featured Replies

Our 2010 2.0tdi estate seems to have developed some air conditioning problems.

With the recent hot weather whenever the car is stationary in traffic, or going slowly (say in rush hour or city centre traffic) the air coming from the vents quite quickly get warm, even with the system set to auto (higher fan speed) and both controls set to 19 degrees, in fact at times opening the windows gets cooler air then what's coming from the AC.

I had the system regassed,  but the problem persists,  the system still blows warm air at times. The garage suggested changing the compressor as they thought the clutch wasn't working correctly,  but they then spoke to an ac specialist and decided to change the pressure sensor.

While the system is a bit better, i'm testing the system in a max of 25 degrees,  not the 32 we had on holiday when it was really a problem.

Should the system blow cold all the time, or should it go warmer and colder, with warmer being air warmer than what's outside? I know it's a daft question,  but the wife drives the car most of the time, and to be honest I don't normally take that much notice of what the ac normally gets up to!

Thanks

Sounds like radiator fan(s) may not be working properly. When the car is moving, the condenser will see airflow without fans helping, but when stationary it won't. Without adequate airflow through the condenser it will get too hot, refrigerant pressure will rise too high and the compressor will back off.

Hello I have he exact same problem, Compressor is leaking, my A/C specialist in Carterton put some dye in and then after a week could see that pulley side of the compressor had the UV dye on it diagnosis new compressor but because I have the latest gas the condenser does not need to be changed. Approx cost £400 to be confirmed. in the last 6 weeks I have had new brakes all round EGR fault and now the air con...car must think it is christmas............
