Fabia Classic

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Not clued up on Fabias so looking for some advice.

Just recently bought the Mrs a Mk1 fabia classic 2006. Im guessing these models were the very basic ones?

Have people fitted dashcams into theres and hardwired it with a fuse kit? Seems a bit tight in the fuse box.

We had a problem with the drivers door barrel spinning so swapped it out with the passenger one, only problem is i dropped the little torx screws. Can these be picked up from the dealers?

One last one, does the door open (in the H.U.D)  only show on central locking models?

Thanks for looking.

yes classic models are very basic so probably no door open warnings.

loads of room for a fuse adapter in the fusebox, i have 2 in mine and it closes no problem. use the rear wiper fuse if you want a switched live feed for dashcam

Thanks for your reply.

Ill fot it to the rear wiper one then if its ignition live.

Do you know if the screws can be purchased for the door lock?

Equipment can also depend on what optional extras were ordered for the car when new. I have a 1.4 mpi Classic but it has factory central locking and electric windows.

This one has A/C but thats about it. Everything else is manual.

Infact the passenger mirror doesnt move very well with the toggle so might need to have a look into that.

There are two screws on the drivers side door handle unit. Screw 1 should only be slightly loosened as its function is simply to push against the side of barrel and lock it solidly in place. The head of screw 2 engages in a gold coloured circular locking collar. When you undo the screw it acts to turn the locking collar and disengage its tags from the barrel allowing it to be pulled out. As you have discovered, if you turn the screws too far they will drop into the bottom of the door.

Screw 1 is part number N90976902

I can't see a part number for screw 2 but there seems to be a repair kit available (1U0 898 004) which has the gold locking ring and maybe the screw too, but not 100% sure. It could be that the screw is considered as all part of the main unit.

Its a great first car, Less gadgets to worry about.

One word in response to the replacement screw question: scrapyard. That's the answer to quite a lot of questions, actually.

Where you live maybe, not all of us are so 'blessed', down my way old cars just get crushed, chipped and shipped.

Same. Not many scrap yards around liverpool anymore. And any that still exist are always funny about providing parts, more interested in the value of scrap now.

I'm really surprised, we have loads around Sheffield, at least 3 within 10 minutes drive of my house. I've spent many a merry afternoon ripping cars apart for odds and ends without having to worry about putting them back together again. I even take my 4 year old along for entertainment, he loves them too. I imagined that this was normal, at least in a decent sized city.

When i was younger i used to go with my dad when he was getting parts for his cars. Gives you a good knowledge of stripping a car and putting it back together. Gutted there isnt many about anymore.

I suppose with new drivers getting new cars because car companies offer cheap lease deals and long warranties theres not much use for them now.

DC- mine is 2004 Classic. being a TDi, you'd expect a bit more ( as other makers did this), but only extra on mine is Alloys. It's got AC , and lights on warning but that's it. No central locking ( that came a bit later ) or electric windows. I've been looking at the dashcam problem and as mine uses a USB supply, which locks up the cigar lighter with fuse problems, I'm looking at a 5v (via a 5v regulator), hard wired into what I see as nearest  switched supply- the heater switch/ supply to. Scrapies used to be great place for spares (and finding out how to get to  /get out the parts you wanted ,without the worry of damaging your own car. And if you knew your own model , you could be certain that the part you wanted ( if engine size/ model variant) was particular was the correct one. These days it's all on the shelf, and you've got to take the word of a scrapyard monkey, that the part is from the model they say it is.
