Wheel bearing tool

Featured Replies

Hi all, as a newbie I have just changed both front wheel bearings on my Fabia mk1 with puller tool kit, and my front arm rear bushes with another kit.

Very easy to do with the kits, apart from could not remove front arm rear bushes with it due to blind holes at the front, brute force took over for removal.

Reason for the post is it took me a while to get all tools together from various places, so there must be more people contemplating these jobs,

I am in Chorley Lancashire, and am quite willing to hire these out to other people wanting to do these jobs.

Please PM me for details.

Thanks

Chris.

I trust that you bought the correct VAG gen 2 bearing tool suitable for the job and not a generic puller.

Yes it is the correct one.

Puzzled by this. There is no blind hole in the console bush housing. You weren't trying to do it with the wishbone still in place were you?

I got the old plastic cased bushes out with a screwdriver and a blowtorch to soften the casings. I made my own tool for installing the new ones.

Hum, that was what I was thinking as well in respect of the blind hole, also yes "lighting" them up normally does the trick if you don't mind the smoke!

Probably sensible use of a hacksaw would sort out the Cupra ones outer steel skin - if you ever needed to replace them, though I would think that they would see the car out.

Ok in an attempt to clarify.

the removal tool has a long threaded bar, looks like it is designed to go through the lower arm front mounting, so you can pull out the rear bush.

my front mounting has a blind tapped hole, so could not use this to pull out old.

hope it clarifies.

Why not just post a photo of the tool(s)?

People are much more likely to take you up on your offer if they can see what they're going to get.
