Fuel gauge issues

Featured Replies

When filling up with diesel my fuel range has been 500 to 560 mpg

After its 60000 service, fuel have says 410miles when full of diesel. Any ideas

Is the car actually getting less range from a tankful, or is it just the display reading different?

Is it one that has had the fix, perhaps.

How about letting us know which Yeti model you have, its age and how long you've had it?  That will give us an idea of what might be expected,

Think display is inaccurate.  Yes it has been changed offer two years ago,  so unsure why.  However,  engine light is on,  possibly a clogged sensor

Do you really think that’s enough information? 110bhp,140bhp,170 bhp, come on don’t be shy!

Think it's 170 but could be a 1100 or 140.

Prior to service did you have any good long economic runs that would effect the 100hr running trip.

Since service if the trip was reset and you have only been doing short thirsty runs this could account for what you describe.

Most likely reason is that the car had it's engine running for a while during part of the service, not going anywhere, and/or it got an Italian tune-up.  This reduces your recent average fuel consumption quite considerably, thus reducing your computed range.  However, unless they got through a huge amount of fuel, providing you drive as normal, you should get nearly the same range out of the whole tank, and the computed range will go up.

Many times I drive a 20 mile trip where the destination is 300 feet nearer sea level, and despite driving 20 miles, the range has gone up by 20 miles on arrival.

I know these things can be changed but if you look at the left hand lettering it will say TDi in silver for a 110, TDi for a 140 and TDi for a 170. May help you in your very odd predicament! :giggle:

The problem has been rectified. Every time engine stopped, felt engine jump. This was due to a blocked pipe, where screw in it had a hole and exhaust film built up and blocked filter. This in turn stopped fuel monitor working

Nope. The reason this occurs is because a pipe in engine gets blocked with exhaust residue. Clear this out and turn the pipe 180 degrees and ensure screw is tight. The screw has a small hole in it, this allows residue into the pipe

Which pipe?  What screw?  What fuel monitor?  AFAIK the fuel consumption is monitored by the ECU tracking fuel injection timing and duration and doing a lot of maths.

Sounds like something in the EGR valve, there's a TPI about it ISTR. Not sure of the relevance to this issue though.
