rear wiper motor parking problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Yeti with a problematic rear wiper motor, although it always ends up in the right place it seems to like to have a few rest breaks in between.

Would this be classified as a "warranty" issue? The car is about 2.5 yrs old and purchased from a main dealer.

Many thanks for any replies.

There was apparently a batch of duff rear wipers which were failing. not sure if that age though.

If it is not working correctly, and will do so when checked, it is definatley a warranty issue to sort before 3 years old.

Maybe video it when you know it is playing up, in case it works fine at the dealers?

Hi and thanks for the reply..it does it all the time, but good idea to take a video.....sods law and all that....

Similar age to my 2015 reg.

There was a batch of faulty wiper motors, mine was replaced, no argument, about 18 months ago.

You’ve done well to last this long !!

Hi and thanks for the reply. I have booked into my nearest dealer for a "diagnostic" check....assume I will have to pay for this....

But do not pay if it is a faulty motor or wiring and a Warranty replacement / repair is required.

That is why you get a 3 year Manufacturers Warranty, the Warranty Provider can pay the Official Repairer.  If not a Warranty issue then yes you will need to pay.

I certainly didn’t.  I just told them about it when I booked the service and they said they would take a look.

As it happened, motor was in and waiting when I had the service done so they’re well aware of the issue.

Hi Graham and thanks for the advice. They are also going to check the lack of "activity" from the stop start system not working, so I guess I will have to pay for that anyway. I suppose I could leave it to the service which will be due in December, but worried it will be close the the warranty running out. (I will probably go for an extended warranty, but on the face of it they seem to exclude most things as "wear items"...which pretty much covers everything!!

Had the same on my 2015 Yeti. Didn't do anything about it until it was 2 years old but, as with Graham, motor was changed under warranty with no issues.

I would just have told them of the issue and let them get on with it. Its a fault so should be covered, not like a worn wiper blade!
