Dealing with dealers...............

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is a bit of a weird question..........

I'm in the process of buying a Fabia vRS.... It'll be the first new car i've bought as all my other cars have been used.

I've been to my local dealer for a couple of test drives and have sat and discussed what exactly i will be wanting as extras. Now i've agreed with the dealer that i'm gonna have a look around to see what kinda price i can find and then give them a shout to see if they can match / beat the best price etc.......

Now the question..... I'm undecided on whether to actually go to each dealer in person, (3 or 4 in total and upto 30/40 miles away), or just phone them and ask to speak to someone in the sales dept to ask what their best deal is compared with Drive The Deal, (

Visit them to show how serious you are.

If they're that far away, I'd ring them personally. You'll learn a lot about their attitude to customers in that call and how flexible they are. Will save you time and money and then you can visit the ones you would be happy to deal with :D

Chris

I'd just ring me and I'll do you a good deal on one. Anthony @ Simpsons Skoda 01282 864266!!!!

Just wondered what other people had done....... Visit each dealer or call each dealer????

If you're looking to see what sort of deal they could do on the price based on factors such as part-ex, you'll need to go and see them.

If you're just after a price for buying "Car X in this colour with A, B and C fitted as extras" then there's no good reason why they couldn't do this over the phone.

Hunting for sales to meet your target?

We've got 15 left to do for 1/4 target. :o

What about you?

I did it all by phone, they werent keen at first but soon realised it was the only way I could do it. I got myself a very nice price that matched DTD:)

Aklready there, sorry to rub it in.....looking like 120%+

I got mine there and the service and price were both fantastic.

Fitted my road angel free, coded all my silly beeps and locking requirements and knocked me lots off :D

Dealt with Wayne though - sorry Ant!

Damn well done. We've got 15 to make the 110%, but we've just sold 2! So we are down to 13.

But damn 120% that's good going!

You looking forward to the Roomster?

Sorry to jack your thread, how many dealer employees are on here? We should have our own sub folder.

sent you a pm, i'll leave this thread for every one to discuss how to relieve us of as much commission as possible!!!! think of my poor starving family!!!!!!!!!;)

Ive found dealers very reluctant to give out "best" prices over the phone.

I normaly phone as many dealers as pos because TBH I dont care how far I have to travel. I saved

I think a phone call is a good start - just to check out how interested the different dealers are. But I would be extremely surprised if you get their best price until you are sitting there ready to sign on the dotted line.

Not a car salesman myself, but I can't believe they will move straight away to their walk away price. Good luck with your hunting though.

Oh - and I got a Skoda Motorsport cap off Simpsons - without even buying a car from them - so I'd ask Anthony to throw in at least two when you call him!

That will just make it too easy for Skoda UK to give you a hard time!

But welcome guys - I'm sure your presence is appreciated by many of the members on here:thumbup:

 and to a poor postman a months flamin wages:mad:

Was thinking the same thing!

I made sure I had various internet prices before going to the dealer for my first test drive.

I then phoned other local dealers with his 'best price' and they were all unable to beat it.

I finally went back to him for another test drive, and called him back with a slightly lower offer which he eventually accepted.

Managed to get within

 and to a poor postman a months flamin wages:mad:

Thats what I meant by some, ie some lucky people.

Well i've had an ask around...................

The missus phoned the dealer in Doncaster who said they could get within a couple of hundred quid of the dtd price i have....... My local dealer said they couldn't get anywhere near the other dealers price never mind the dtd price!!!!!

I've got another couple to try but they are 30-40 miles away so it'll depend on what response i get from my VW dealer as to whether they will buy my Polo off me.... They said they would be interested in it when i spoke to them the other month..... If they do buy it and give me a good-ish price i think it'll be dtd for me rather than trying to match the dtd price at another non-local dealer.

Cheers

Why not stick your polo on autotrader? Youll get far more for it than selling to dealer or P/Xing it.

If youre worried about cheques and stuff just insist on cash only, and do the deal in business hours so you can get a bank to check notes are genuine

Aye up John,

I did think about selling the Polo private but it's due an 80k service which is in the region of 400-500 quid (timing belt, tensioners & water pump). The wheels aren't in too good a condition either so when i've taken those into how i price it there wouldn't be too much difference to trading it in......

Nowt's easy when it comes to me and cars.......   I might have another look at what sorta price the GTi's are going for at the mo and then have another look at what sorta price i could ask for mine though before i make a final decision.

Cheers

Dave.

hi wavey davey

i got my vrs from hayseldon doncaster at £11500 with cruise and magic black.

went in with wife and we had already driven to rainworth in mansfield to get their price it was a little bit more but went back to hayseldon and my wife kept saying no to what they had said until it got down to £11500 inc criuse best rainworth could do was £11600 for magic black only.

speak to KIRST YARROW she was the lady who dealt with us from start to finish and we will go back to her when missus decides on which ocy vrs she wants old or new shape very helpfull lady can`t praise enough.

All I can say is haggle, in my wifes words she would have walked if she didn`t get the deal after all it`s your business they want and they will give a fair price.

hope this helps

critch

( a very happy skoda owner)

Cheers for the replies all..............

The options i'm after are Black Pearl paint, Cruise, Xenons & ESP...... The price i have at the moment is around 1500 quid off book price.....Around 12,250ish..... The nearest we've got a dealer to say they might go for is about 250 quid more. The only reason i'm looking at going with a dealer direct is in case i decide to trade in my Polo. If i don't have to trade-in the Polo then the DTD option will probably be the one i go for.

As for not knowing where i will have to pick the car up from....... I'm one of those lucky people who worked for an old company called British Rail and so i get nationwide free rail travel :D :D :D so it would just be a case of travelling to the dealer for nowt on the train then driving back......... Plus a taxi fare between the station & dealer and maybe a tank of diesel to get home...... Still probably only around the 50 quid mark...... Hence me wanting to get a dealer to get very close to the DTD quote.

Cheers

Dave.
