Karoq power

Featured Replies

I am interested in owner’s experiences of the power from various Karoq engines.

I had a brief test drive in a manual 1.5, yesterday but didn’t get the chance to properly test the acceleration. I’ll probably buy a 15 Edition DSG if available or a 2.0 diesel Edition DSG, but would welcome feedback as I have owned a 2.0 FSI Octavia L&K for 11 years and worry that the new engines will offer lower performance.

I too have a 2.0 FSI Octavia 4x4 manual and have test-driven both the 1.5 TSI DSG 2x4 and the 2.0 diesel DSG 4x4.

My impression was that the 1.5 TSI was brisker than my Octavia, very nice at lower revs, where auto D tends to keep the engine. In general it seemed to drive a somewhat more powerful car than mine.

The diesel didn't impress me as much, maybe due to the extra 4x4 weight but perhaps also because diesels are completely new to me.

I find that the 2.0 diesel DSG 4x4 has more than enough power and that the DSG gearbox is a good match for the engine.

When you put your foot down it has the power to get you out of trouble.

Economy isn't bad either. On my last tank I got around 54mpg. 60% on motorways, 30% on A/B road and 10% in town.

Totally agree. Particularly On the harmoneous mating between the 2.0 TDI and the DSG.

THE 2.0 TSI. 190 HP With the DSG in the T-Roc was A mismatch.

I hope that the different DSG version that needs to be fitted (so I understand) to the 1.5 TSI to acomodate 4x4 doesn't lead to a poorer match as well.

What do you find to be mismatched about the DSG in the 190ps TSI T-Roc?

In the SEAT Ateca i thought it was just perfect.

As for a 150PS 1.5 TSI 4x4 DSG there are not likely to be many surprises, it will be a 150 PS and the weight it is....

I have the 2.0 4x4 DSG Karoq and coming from a 184 DSG Octavia Scout I expected a bigger difference in power than there is, knock it back into sports to overtake and it picks up nearly as good as the scout.

I am more than happy with it.

The 190 Hp DSG 4x4 petrol T-Roc was jerky and indecisive in selecting gears at lower speeds. Switching down unnecessarily between 2-3-4 while driving around town, and then changing it's mind and switching back up again. Once over around 30 mph, no problems.

Basically, all  the Karoq and T-Roc versions share the same DSG box, but the switching software must be different for the different engine characteristics.

The T-Roc was fresh and lively and drove well, but had a feeling of not being a "finished" design. On the other hand, once up to (German) motorway speeds, it was just great in both handling and power.

Maybe I am just used to driving twinchargers with 180 ps and more and 7 speed twin dry clutch dq200 DSG's,  lots of changing up the gears at low speeds. Just what I am used to and am happy with.   mapping is different between the VW, SEAT, Audi and Skoda 190 ps TSI,s with 7 speed wet clutch DSG,s,  hence different Co2 g/km figures like 155 for the VW and 159 with the SEAT,   maybe testing software was what the engineers were finding most important.   What ever I love the engines with the DSG,s as they come.

Bit late with the reply but 1.5Tsi manual owned for nearly 7 months and 6,600 miles (long term average 45mpg) and does 0-60mph in 8.4 seconds because despite it's bulky apperanace it not that heavy. Had no problem recently out gunning a 2.2D Jaguar X type estate up a motorway slip road (SWMBO told me to slow down as I hit 80mph before I joined the motorway) Needless to say the Jaguar driver was more than a bit surprised and it hasn't been re-mapped yet!

The 1.5L TSi engine is a little 'POWERHOUSE' and I often end up spinning the front wheels if its given too mush 'wellie'.

Its a VERY capable motor and I can thoroughly recommend it.

Coming from a previous generation Tiguan with the current 150bhp diesel manual which I found lethargic and only averaged around 40mpg ( as well as having to add adblue every 3k) and; still have a 120k mls petrol Octavia 2.0 vrs ( which still averages 40 mpg on a long run!)

went for the 1.5 petrol dsg karoq and am very happy with performance and economy!

I have a 1 litre DSG SEL and find it slightly underpowered compared with my previous Yeti. Tends to change up too early and find it’s better to use S mode which stops the juddering at certain speeds in D mode. Otherwise very pleased.

Weird but after 6,600 miles in Eco just tried Sport instead and average jumped from 47.92MPG (253 MILES of commutes 24 litres or 5.28 gallons of regular unleaded) to 58.9MPG with a new PB of 63.2MPG beating the Eco PB of 62.1MPG. Touch of the X-FILES going on me thinks!:o

Less power is not always good for economy - my Karoq (1.5 tsi) uses a lot less fuel than my previous (underpowered 1.2l) Qashqai, and when my wife changed her 1.0 Fiesta for the 1.0 turbo version, her average mpg went up from 36 to 42....

Agree wife ran a 1.1 Picanto Chill (had standard air con) for 4 years from 2009-2013 and it averaged between 38-41MPG regardless how it was driven with 67bhp at it's disposal!

Interesting...I'm definitely going to try this! I struggle to hit 40mpg on a 30 mile drive (Southampton -> Salisbury) unless i sit in the slow lane on the motorway going 60mph!

The following day (must clarify giving my 245 a well deserved rest for one week, it's first birthday present from me) I managed to hit 65.1MPG briefly on the motorway (usually 55-60mph air con off BTW), but still got the since refuelling screen to show 107 miles driven with 505 miles left in the tank at an average of 59.5MPG over 4 journeys and 2 days commuting!:tongueout:

Jordyl10 - Interestingly I too do this journey but the opposite to you as I live in Salisbury and travel to Southampton.

My 1.5tsi DSG is only eight days old but I have driven this route twice and on both occasions I managed 42mpg + and I'm no Miss Daisy.

It's nice to see you're still alive thought you had popped your clogs years ago! LOL:D

Perhaps I am a little too heavy footed :notme:! I will look out for you along the A36!

To be fair generally in the mornings I tend to get better economy as there is far less traffic on the roads  - maybe into 41/42mpg. But the drive home is 90% of the time around 36-38mpg.

When I finish in an hours time I will be popping it into sport mode!
