Coolant Temperature

Featured Replies

Iv owned two Fabia vRS' now and the current one i have takes around about around 5-10 minutes to get to normal operating temperature, another thing aswell is if my car is at normal temperature (in middle of the dial) and i then turn the car off and  leave the car off for around about two hours when i get back in the car and turn it on the car instantly is at around quarter temperature and only takes about 2-3 minutes of driving to get back up to the halfway mark, this seems rather odd right as i see most people complaining about how long their diesels take to warm up?

This vRS used to take ages to warm up because one of my friends previously owned it, but a few months before i bought it from him it has had a New cam, new water pump, timing belt ,hybrid turbo, skimmed head and head gasket replaced to fit the PD150 headbolts for the bhp the car is running, the car is running around 220-230 as a guess, since all this work was done the car warms up very fast now, The car pulls very well and there is nothing that i have seen that seems to be going wrong with the car, iv had long journeys in the car and it doesnt overheat or anything. the car isnt losing coolant either.

I dont rag the car once it is at the halfway mark because its highly likely that the oil is still very cold..

My previous Fabia vRS took around about 20+ minutes to heat up to normal temperature and it never used to stay warm really when i used to turn it off and get back in it later on in the day.

i haven't been too worried about this but just wanted to see what people think about it because maybe it really shouldn't be doing this

What are your thoughts, maybe a dodgy temp sensor or maybe its just normal for some fabias to do this?

It doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with your current car, your old one obviously had a stuck thermostat and took much too long to warm up.

If it ain't broke...

My 1.9 Tdi did exactly the same from when I purchased it in 2014.Just recently changed the cambelt, tensioner, water pump etc.but also fitted a new thermostat. It is now great,a few minutes and it is up to 90deg.C as it should be.I noticed that the old thermostat had not got the O-ring that should fit around the periphery and was loose in its recess. My theory is that the stat was loose enough for coolant to flow past it constantly thus taking a long time to get to operating temperature.I have tested the old stat and it is working fine as far as my thermometer is telling me.

@BenAP1221 - Your description sounds very much like my car (110 rather than PD130).
