REAR LED LIGHTS (HIGH FUNCTIONALITY)

Featured Replies

I've got a 1.4 SEL built in Jan 18. It supposedly has  REAR LED LIGHTS (HIGH FUNCTIONALITY).

So how come the indicators and stop lights (side) use conventional bulbs?

What exactly IS the difference between "high" and "low" functionality on the superb, just led number plate bulbs?

I believe its the led lights that run into the tailgate section.  On hatch and estate.  And possibly what they call the gems that cover the indictors and reverse bulbs.

These are mine with the high functionalityScreenshot_20180814-210525.thumb.jpg.de465b9ca4b677653e45a6b1d056fb8b.jpg

AFAIK it just means the rear LED lights extend from the main cluster to the part of cluster on the boot lid; perhaps the ‘gems’ which cover the bulbs are part of the package too?

‘Extended’ is how I thought Škoda referred to it ?

Ok, I looked at a price brochure and you're right, its those 2 little strips and 2 number plate bulbs.

£155 option for SE, what a bargain.....not.

The use of the term  REAR LED LIGHTS (HIGH FUNCTIONALITY) is complete nonsense and misleading.

Standard on sportline. I personally really like them.  I have them coded so they are turned on with my front drls as well

Not exactly "high functionality". I naively expected that to mean LED stop lights, indicators, fog and reverse too.

Surely even just "rear LED lights" would make you expect all the lights on the rear to be LED? Almost like they are trying to mislead...

Exactly.

It doesn't really bother me as I actually think filament bulb indicators and stop lights are actually better and safer than the horrible strips like you get on Audis (and don't get me started on those dynamic wipey indicators!)

But I do object to misleading marketing.

How is it misleading?

Those lighting strips are LED.

Some specs don't have the LED strip that extend into the boot. This is the "Low" version.

U have the "High" version.

So the statement appears correct - Rear LED Lights (High) :)

Had the phase been “Full Functionality” then a case for misleading would be correct. But the phase is “High Functionality” and that’s what they are. Higher functionality over the low lights.

I have no issue with high vs low functionality (to me functionality is what they do, e.g. scrolling indicators (which i know we don't get) and drl lines etc.) but when it says rear LED lights, instead of "real mixed LED and Filament lights (high functionality)" i find that misleading.... LED vs Filament isn't functionality, it's type. Not a big issue, just sad not have them :-)

Hopefully it's simple to replace the bulbs with plug and play leds - i probably won't bother until one goes pop, but then i'd know it was my choice :-p

All car companies do the same thing. Try reading a Volvo spec sheet and working out what some options actually give you and whether you need to add 2 separate options to get full 'functionality'. A couple of pictures clearly showing what 'high functionality' was would have resolved it easily would it not? But then the marketeers wouldn't want you knowing that you pay for a couple of short strips of LED light.

A lot of us had a similar issue over the 'smart light' system; getting info in the early days was not straighforward.

This particular Skoda example was highlighted early on and suitable replacements etc for those that want to make the 5 minute upgrade to LED rear and reversing lamps can be found in this thread.

Cant do anything about the the strip on the boot, just the rear, reversing and front fogs if you wish.

Total cost from  memory was about £50 when I did mine.

It will be interesting down the line a few years when some of those modified vehicles go for MOT. If the tester spots the LED lamps I guess that will result in a fail under the revised MOT testing rules???
