Electric parking brake

Featured Replies

Does a skoda Octavia 1.5dsg SE have a electric parking brake or is it manual? Thanks

All Octy’s currently make do with a manual parking brake. I’ve seen nothing in the MY19 spec so far to see that that’s changing.

And long may it remain so

Controversial here but I much prefer the electronic parking brakes. Each to their own though and I can see the clear benefits of the manual parking brake, but I really see the benefits of the electric ones as well. VW made a hash of them on the Passat, but having completely disassembled and rebuilt the electric parking brake on a Land Rover Discovery 3, it’s a very intelligently designed system and it was one of the only electronic items that didn’t give us grief on the car. It was taken apart because some grit got lodged between the disc and the handbrake shoes that held against the disc from lots of hard off roading, and after fixing that we went through the whole system to make sure it was all ok. It was :)

+1 I actually like them.

They free up some space on the centre console - in the octy the armrest and the handbrake end up very close together or getting in the way of each other depending on the position combination of the two. I also like that you can drive off without disengaging it and it will just do it for you. It also looks more modern too.

How do you do a handbrake turn with one?

just wondering!

I think it will become standard when the MK8 Golf is launched late in 2019 and the MK4 Octavia will inherit on launch sometime in 2020!

The SEAT Leon now has an electronic handbrake after being originally launched with a manual handbrake, so I can't imagine it being too long before it makes its way into the Octy.

You don't. That's why I won't buy a car with electronic hadbrake.

The biggest advantage for me is with an Electronic Parking Brake you also get Auto Hold which is great especially on DSG models.

I also have a Passat, DSG and Auto Hold is a great combination.

No you have a manual handbrake and "Hill Hold"

Hill Hold prevents you rolling back for a few seconds.

Auto Hold lets you pull up to a stop, release the brakes and the car will stay stationary until you touch the throttle.

A couple of year ago I had a Golf as a loan car whilst the vRS was being serviced and the electronic handbrake failed on one hill. Took it back to the dealer at the end of the day and told them. They interrogated the error log and told me 'there was some sort of glitch'. Destroyed my trust of such devices!

I stand corrected.
