Wifi w. LTE Internet vs Premium WLAN

Featured Replies

When I bought my 2018 Superb SportLine estate a few weeks ago, one of the "features" listed in the spec was "Wi-Fi w. LTE Internet.". To me, the fact that it says "LTE Internet" means that it's not just standard WiFi via tethering to phone, but includes a SIM card slot to allow it to make its own LTE internet connection.

I just got round to checking, and there is definitely no SIM slot in the media unit in the glove compartment. I have the 9.2" Columbus head unit.

I want to go back to the dealer I purchased from and check what their understanding is, but I don't want them to fob me off and tell me that it's just tethering, if, in fact, they have misrepresented the car as having a feature that it doesn't have.

I'm pretty sure that the fact it mentions LTE indicates that it should have the "Premium WLAN" option, but maybe it's just poorly-worded?

According to the brochures, Sportline has the Amundsen unit which has Wifi via Tethering. Columbus with LTE is only fitted as standard to Sportline plus, SEL or L&K. If you paid to have the Columbus upgrade (£885) , you will also have needed to buy the additional Wifi/LTE option (£405) for that functionality.

I believe a lot of the specs have changed and sportline comes with the columbus unit. Mine is a 67 plate and i have the full touch screen columbus. But no sim slot in glove box. Not too bothered for it.

Yes looks like it has been downgraded.... As all previous newer sportlines all got the columbus as standard. I guess they wanna push more people into the sportline plus. Tbf if i was to buy one now id want the sportline plus as i really like the columbus unit.

here in Oz, all Superbs, Sportline or not, come with the Columbus unit, but no SIM Card.

the Columbus unit has WLAN by default.

we don't get any options regarding SIM card, Premium (Business version) etc etc.

from ERWIN, based on my vehicle VIN, and its associated build components, mine has:-

"9IH - Comfort telephony with WLAN and LTE and wireless charging"

i've read some where, there are the followng variations available in some markets, ordered according to cost, from least expensive to most expensive, upgrade-wise:-

1. PT4 - Comfort telephony, WLAN

2. PT1 - Comfort telephone, wireless connectivity, wireless charging

3. PT5 - Comfort telephony, wireless connectivity, WLAN and wireless charging

4. PT2 - Comfort telephony, WLAN and LTE

5. PT3 - Comfort telephony, WLAN, wireless connectivity, LTE and wireless charging

i'm not sure which one is the "Business Premium" version, which provides rSAP bluetooth, and i'm not sure if LTE signifies SIM card.

cause if it does, my doesn't have it, despite being in the build specs.
