Van Conversion Fabia MK1

Featured Replies

Hey all! Has anyone got any photos or know anyone who’s converted a fabia vRS MK1 into a van and done a decent job? Looking to do it for no other reason than I have never seen one and would be great to stand out and I think it would look amazing!!

Thanks, Alex

It would be a tiny van, better of doing it to an estate.

@al3xhumphr3ys - Well, you'd still have a 5-door car unless you know a really good bodyshop.

There were some "conversions" done back in the 1970s that just used slot in side boards on 3 door estates, but my Google Fu failed to find any relevant images.

Just because you can think of something doesn't mean you should try and do it.

Just pay the exorbitant insurance and wait for it to get cheaper as you get older and more experienced.

Just do it.

If you start now you should be finished by night time.

Strip the rear trim as much as you want.  Tint the rear glass from the front doors back.

Put some lining in if you want, even a half bulk head between the front and rear.

It will still be a 5 seat passenger car on the V5 and at the MOT but no rear seats or seat belts so those can not be part of the test.

Or do you want to weld the rear doors. panel the rear glass.

Skoda had a Fabia van in Europe, the Fabia Praktik, essentially a low spec 5dr estate with no rear seats, solid plastic side windows, plain rear door cards and grey unpainted bumpers. Google is your friend for images. It was also boarded out in the rear to give a level loadspace and there was a tiny bulkhead behind the front seats.

I could never understand why Skoda never made a Rooster Van in the UK.

Probably because VW did the Caddy.

Yeti & Roomster as Vans in other countries where the Taxation suited best.

BMW Series 1 looks like a Van as a car, good place to start with to make a sporty 2 seater IMO.

Someone's done a slammed Fabia Mk1pickup, seen pics of it on here.  And yes, recall seeing pics, possibly promo emails from Abrex, of their models of Fab Mk1 estate van conversion, the aforesaid Praktik, in various Czech utility company liveries, eg. telecoms, fire service, ambulance.

And as Google can show you, there's the Roomster Praktik van in Europe, never seen one over here, anyone spotted one?

As has been said Skoda did the "Praktik" range in the Fabia & Roomster...available in Europe & NOT the UK.

Yeh, think I’ll pass now seeing the photos!!

They look ghastly without body coloured bumpers. I give you the Fabia 'Junior'. You don't even get a glovebox, or even power steering! :D ...

In an odd way which i'll never be able to explain, I've always wanted one of these.......

The Praktik has the same dash set up as the Junior, ie no passenger airbag, no glovebox and generally no radio, but it does get a rev counter and keep fit windows.

Interestingly the grey bumpers are not specific to the Junior or the Praktik, they are just unpainted regular bumpers. Loads of the 1.0 Mpi Junior models out in Czech when I went in 2003 and 2004.
