Excited convert-to-be from Audi

Featured Replies

First post alert!

With my Audi A3 Saloon 2.0 TDI Sport coming to the end of it's lease, I have ridden myself of my badge snobbery and seen sense. B)

Just ordered a Superb 2.0 TDI 150PS DSG SE L Exec with the following options:

Petrol Blue metallic paint (black leather interior)

18" Pegasus alloys (no cost)

Rear view parking camera

Temporary spare wheel

Floor mat set

Rear window wiper (no cost)

Must admit I'm pretty excited to have a car that by all accounts drives and feels great combined with far better VFM than I ever got from Audi (which didn't even have electric mirrors or reversing sensors as standard!)

Anyone with the above spec or similar have any newbie tips/ things to watch out for to share?

Cheers!

1] Get your head round the size - this is a long, wide car compared to an A3!

2] Understand the way the auto-hold brake works & especially in combination with stop-start.

3] Same applies to ACC. Not like an on-off cruise control.

3] Keep a lens cloth in the car to clean all the grubby fingerprints off the infotainment screen and the piano black trim.

4] Enjoy the best value VW Passat there is!

Thanks for the insight!

1) still waiting to test drive but I’m sure this will take the most getting used to and is the reason for thinking rear camera was essential!

2) This may blow some minds but I’ve never had a car with cruise control so nothing to compare it to. However I want to get the value from it. I do about 70 miles a day which is 70% M25 and 30% A roads

3) Good tip. The dial control for the Audi MMI is possibly the only thing I’ll miss

4) Most excited about all the toys/ kit I get to play with. Because I’ll be getting the car (unless lead times slip further) in December, hoping I’ll be able to use Waze through the CarPlay on the Columbus system as I’m so used to Waze and it’s better than any built-in sat nav

CarPlay will be updated later this year to enable both Google Maps and other third party mapping apps, I believe.

Yep with iOS 12 which hopefully is September time. I’m sure the built in satnav is decent enough on the L Exec but once you go Waze you never go back!

@lobsta100 even audi is moving away frim mmi now. New A6, A7 and im sure some others now have moved to touch screen systems. Ive used mmi in an A6 allroad and i hate it coming from a touch screen lol.

I’m sure it won’t take long for touchscreen in the car to feel normal

Hi yes I had 6 years with a A3 and currently 6 months with an Superb combi. Only good things so far ( apart from badge snobbery!)

Mine is very similar spec to yours, but a year and a bit older.  Enjoy it.

My daughter has a 1.5 TSI A3 and I struggle with the mmi and the menus are far from intuitive.  Took us five minutes to find the tyre pressure monitoring in it earlier this week.  The touch screen is far easier to use.

Never really got round to trying waze as the built in sat nav works fine for me and not used the hard drive in the audio as I have i-pod plugged into the usb socket.

You will be conscious of the size for a couple of weeks, as I was, but it soon passes.

Mine is very similar to that too.  150tdi DSG in petrol blue in Style spec (same as SE L more or less) although I have beige leather.  Petrol blue is a great colour and I get a lot of compliments about how good it looks!  Pegasus wheels look great and the turbine design gives the impression that they are even larger than they are.  The sensors and camera will help with parking and you'll get used to the size very quickly.  Some good tips above especially re the stop/start.  It can be a little over-enthusiastic particularly with DSG and my best tip would be to switch off stop/start altogether.  When I get into the car now, the first thing I do immediately is switch off S/S.  Great car though and hope the wait isn't too painful!  Enjoy!

1) I came from a Seat Leon (same as A3 under the skin) and have never had a problem with size.

2) Switched the handbrake to Auto on day one and have never touched it, simply brilliant. Compared to others I have driven there is no comparison.

3) ACC took no getting used to once I had re- set the sensitivity to something less dangerous.

4) Fingerprints are a fact of life. Only alternative is to wear gloves.

5) Its the best value anything.

I have one similar but two years old nearly and manual box.

Ensure the dealer removes the suspension blocks from your front springs.

Read the manuals.  It will take some time and not all of it is understandable on first look but having read them you will have a better idea of what your new toy is all about that much quicker.

Have fun.

I made the change from an A3 Sportback to a Superb Sportline last Friday and so far I can't think of anything that I preferred about the Audi over the Skoda. It's early days but at the moment I can't see why I would go back to Audi.

You've made the right decision!

Is “removing the suspension blocks” the same as enabling the comfort ride setting? Sorry a bit clueless with some of this stuff

Don’t worry I always read the manual up front!

Suspension blocks are blocks that are put un their from factory and need to be removed during the PDI (pre delivery inspection)  a lot of times these have been left in as a lot on here have found out.

Thanks for enlightening me!

A very newbie question but it seems incredibly common on here to do this VCDS coding on the cars. Is that because the people on here are serious techy petrol heads or are regular joe/ Jane doing this stuff?

They are a plastic insert in the springs that should be removed during the pdi. Lots of examples posted on here where they have not been removed.

Adding options or amending default settings is basically what VCDS is about. Not especially a petrol head thing. Check out the VCDS sticky for some examples

@lobsta100:  These blocks are inserted into the springs while the car is in transit to the dealer.  It has been known, many times more than once, for a dealer to forget to remove them.  The consequences are a dreadful ride, potentially dangerous handling and possible damage to the suspension.  It is a simple job to remove them and it is a pdi job.  Dealers forget.  Mine did.  One side only.  Paid the price in compensation and another dealer servicing my car.

Lobsta, if your Superb is going to be on a lease, modifications like VCDS coding are things you shouldn’t really be contemplating as you don’t own the car. Are you leasing yourself or will this be a business lease?

Not to worry I was never contemplating modifying it myself - just curious re the frenzy on here! Not my style. It will be on a personal lease

I've had some changes made using VCDS.  I'd say I'm a regular Joe and they were to change things that I was more comfortable with or to activate options I didn't have on my car.  They weren't essential, but I'm pleased they've been done.
