if your Superb is going to be on a lease, modifications like VCDS coding are things you shouldn’t really be contemplating as you don’t own the car.

Whilst this is true, If you take a backup before making any changes then you can always return to stock before handing back, and they'll be none the wiser.

(as long as you're careful and stick to reversible changes...)

Some if not all the adaptions/codings can be reverted and tbf most returned leases go to auction..... They wouldnt even look or check i doubt.....

CarPlay will be updated later this year to enable both Google Maps and other third party mapping apps, I believe.

Yeah looking forward to that too. I've just changed from Android on my works phone to my own iphone and was disappointed that both waze and google maps don't work on carplay with IOS11. They worked great on Android!

Roll on IOS12.

Assuming if I’m getting a car built/ delivered after the new update that it will just be available? I wonder what the CarPlay-friendly interface will be like

The internet all seem to say the interface is very similar although I’ve not seen any demos yet. iOS 12 “might” bring 3rd party apps to the table like Waze and Google Maps. Only time  will tell.

The good thing is that Skoda OneApp displays and works great on car play. It works on Android but never displayed on the infotainment screen thru android auto.

SkodaOne App works well on the infotainment screen via MirrorLink on an Android phone.

MirrorLink does not work on every Android phone though. You must have got lucky as my Samsung Galaxy J5 didn't work. Checking with Skoda's phone compatibility checker https://compatibilitylist.skoda-auto.com/ also concurred that MirrorLink isn't supported on the J5.
