MKII Superb - Columbus RNS510 problems, Ireland

Featured Replies

Hi Superb drivers across the UK and Ireland.

I wanted to share an update with you guys on the recent problem I've had with my 2009 MkII Superb, specifically the dreaded Columbus RNS510 unit.

About a month ago; the unit gave up, in that it would attempt to start (showing the skoda flash screen for ~5 seconds), then go to a blank screen, with no sound, or any functionality.  Knowing the bad reputation the Columbus has, I was fearful it was the end of the unit and I'd have to replace it. I rang my local Skoda main dealer in Ireland and a new Columbus for my car is €2,100 (£1,900) and even looking for a used one from a crashed car for example, would have set me back about €600.

Cutting to the chase; HUGE credit needs to be given to Rustynuts.

The guy is a legend and saved me a whole lot of money and grief. He walked me through the process of trying to kick-start the Columbus back to life by installing a firmware upgrade. It worked:) It took about 40 mins overall and now the unit is back working with almost everything as it should be. I need to sort out the sat nav maps, but hoping that's not a huge issue.

this is a great forum and I'm so happy with the result of looking here, rather than spending huge amounts of cash to fix the issue that cost me €5 for a pack of DVD-R's.

No surprise here, only he is so "nuts" to suggest something like that ... P.S. pun intended, no hard feelings man @Rustynuts :D

Hi mate I hope you can help me please. Basically I have fitted a rear view camera to my columbus RNS-510 on my mk2 Superb head unit and had to do a hard reset in order to get the camera to work. That worked and it does display the video camera on reverse however...

Now I have an issue where the head unit displays the skoda screen, then goes black and nothing happens. It then continues to restart, I have been told that I may need to do a software update? Also I think the maps have gone too as sometimes it asks me for a CD?

I hope you can help me and a massive thanks in advance!

Thanks,

Daniel

This forum also saved me a fortune by fixing my Germanic speaking head unit.

Very helpful bunch indeed.
