Windshield wipers retraction after ignition off

Featured Replies

One thing I find lacking (or not configured) on my car, is that the windshield wipers will be stopped (if active) when I turn off the ignition in their current position (usually in the middle of the windshield)? The newer cars, even my previous Citroen C5 '10 had this feature, which allowed for the wipers to fully retract even after turning the ignition off. I've enabled the tear-wipe option via VCDS, but I never managed to figure out if it is possible to either configure or do some modification that would enable the storing of the wipers to their down position after turning off the engine. Any ideas? How is this situation on the 13-15 models?

As the Superb's wipers cannot be lifted off the screen in the usual rest position (they hit the bonnet), it seems Skoda have deliberately prevented the wipers from finishing their sweep if the power is interrupted mid-sweep. They call this 'Winter Position'...

Not sure why this 'feature' is required, surely they could simply promote the 'Service Position' as the 'Winter Position'?

I can't remember at the moment (those are really fine details), but when the car starts moving after ignition, the wipers actually retract slightly deeper into the bonnet (I guess to reduce drag), don't they? ... so if they went that far with the design, I can't believe they'd ignore the retraction of wipers automatically after ignition off, when there is a service mode available ... wtf?

The random resting position is deliberate too, it is supposed to preserve the life of the wiper blades...

And yet, the wipers will stop if active in their current position after turning off the ignition like they did half a century ago ... :dull:

Think yourself lucky, at least Skoda's finish each flash of the indicators.

If the indicators are cancelled mid-flash on a Mercedes they'll turn off mid-flash. Looks a bit rubbish.

Nope, that's just Mercedes ... if that's what you want to do, it will do that ... :D
