Upgrading Headunit to Columbus?

Featured Replies

You bought an FL Columbus radio unit for £150? That’s a steal!!!! Some people are terrified of the CP removal so throw them away cheap. Nice find :)

  • Yes, that’s a MIB1 Bolero so you’ll need a radio unit and screen from whichever MIB2 you want to upgrade to (I chose Amundsen with 8 inch Columbus screen and this is getting popular as it’s much cheap

  • 5E0035864A is the part number for a MIB1 Amundsen. You have bought a Columbus screen 5E0919606. These are not compatible components. The screen is just a screen, the MIB1 Amundsen runs 240x400 resolut

no he was quoting the screen on its own for £800 and the whole setup £950

i asked if he would take £150 for the glovebox unit going by his math. dont think he was interested in splitting

Shame, £150 would be a bargain! £800 for the screen is well overpriced.

yeah not gonna happen though, ill have to wait a year or two for a few more to hit the scrap yard.

@SashaGrace ok last question... :biggrin:

ive got my hands on a MY16 PFL Amundsen (2SD card) unit, i want to run the FL 9" screen, is this possible and will 'android-auto' work? or what would i have to do?

I’ve got MK3 2016 - I have got the Amundsen screen the unit with 2 SD slots as images below the lights on the screen are all green.

I'm interested in getting the bigger screen and like the newer version on FL Octavia.

dvd playback and such

Sasha's post on the previous page covers it I think. Pre-FL Columbus screen or FL Amundsen screen are a straight swap to get a bigger screen but don't get you DVD playback. For that you'd need a Columbus glovebox unit and screen.

As above, if you want a DVD drive you’ll need a Columbus unit. My unit has Video In Motion unlocked but I dunno if that’s just for MirrorLink or if you can use an SD card to store a video. I will give it a go at some point :)

@SashaGrace thanks for the help today, you know your stuff. got this unit and the shark fin and usb connect for £150 all in, just need the 8" screen and maps card then for Pawel to do his magic.

I open it up as id heard someone talking about a HDD conversion, cant see anything other than the SD ribbon slots. There may be a slot on some models for a hard drive or SSD but must be the newest models, nothing here to see except the silver unit at the back which looked big enough to house a SODIMM style card but it was welded to the PCB

so with the bolero MIB1 you need a GPS antenna and i wanted it to look as factory as possible so got the sharkfin for almost nothing. This one is GPS only you can get all four connectors DAB aerial would be nice as my reception is gash at the best of times. don't need the phone box as my phone is too big and i already have a xvida magnetic charger and dont need to cable up the phone. I will be bricking it cutting the hole and might get a body man to do it correctly

plastic fin... you can guess what im going to do with this? yep carbon dip!

anyone got an image of the cut/aperture for the fin? is doesn't look round from the shape of the spring clip? that would be too easy :dull:

CarsEquipmet seem to have the Columbus 8" screen is stock but there priced at 350 euros i thought they were cheaper than that?

Do you have the codes for each of the screens please

@JohnnyType2 the HDD is in the Columbus only but all that looks a bargain. If your using the proper GPS connection you may not get the GPS fault in the module that I have.

@AndGibs1486 when you say codes do you mean the coding to enable VIM on the units or the part numbers for the screens? VIM enabling is in the main VCDS sticky at near the top of this page. Part numbers are as follows.

Columbus Pre FL is 5E0919606

Amundsen FL is 5E0909605M

Yeah they stock them at that price, only the Amundsen and Bolero FL screens are in the £220 ish region when they come around. Always seems to be a premium for a Columbus screen.

There’s a guy on EBay Tarisadi-6 that’s breaking a Octavia 2018 model.

they are asking for

£800 headunit

£500 seats

£800 for radio and screen? Still a bit of a rip off but not overly awful by some breakers standards.

he wanted 800 for the screen and an extra £150 for the whole unit.

Yeah that’s correct after asking questions  wasn’t very clear what he meant at first, where did you get your screen from.

Amundsen will not work with latest 9.2" screens, only MIB2.5 Columbus :(

That’s what I wanted the newer version of the Amundsen. There’s a company on eBay from vagserp based out of serpukhov Russia selling Amundsen mib 2 unit and screen for Approx £563.75 with delivery.

My pleasure - just pls note I'm not available between September 15th an 30th so either you have to wait till October or ship it ASAP using some fast delivery.

BTW: two more units with forum colleagues, Amundsen 5Q0035874A and Seat version of Amundsen, named Navi System, 5QA035858.
