  • Yes, that’s a MIB1 Bolero so you’ll need a radio unit and screen from whichever MIB2 you want to upgrade to (I chose Amundsen with 8 inch Columbus screen and this is getting popular as it’s much cheap

  • 5E0035864A is the part number for a MIB1 Amundsen. You have bought a Columbus screen 5E0919606. These are not compatible components. The screen is just a screen, the MIB1 Amundsen runs 240x400 resolut

amundsen MIB2 head unit £200

gps cable £40

nav card £40

screen will be at least £250

shark fin gps £50 (i got this free)

£125 to disable CP from skoda

200 euro for the other software enabling.

If you keep your eyes open for deals online and ask around your local breaker yards then you can go cheaper than that.

My upgrade was :

MIB2 head unit + card - £150

columbus screen - £200 (I really wanted the bigger screen so was willing to pay extra)

CP removal - £100

Other software enabling - £185 (200 euro)

So actually more like £635. Probably could have got it down lower if i'd been less picky about a screen! Admittedly I already had the GPS kit so that wasn't required on top.

Mine was £432 all in.

£156 for radio unit and SD card

£116 for 6.5 inch screen (used for a couple of months)

£200 for 8 inch screen

£160 for coding and postage

£0 for USB (came free with radio)

£0 for Component Protection which was a great amount of luck as the dealer didn’t know what was going to happen when they did it.

-£100 for the 6.5 inch screen

-£100 for the original Bolero

That should be £432 cost to change.

I haven't sold my old gear yet so admittedly if I do, that would bring the cost down too. Sasha is still way ahead anyway due to her free CP removal :D

That was a stroke of good luck but the original quote was 15-20 mins of workshop time which is about £15 as my local dealer charge £60 per hour including VAT. Hopefully the same cost will prevail tomorrow with the camera firmware update! Also forgot the £7.99 for the GPS antenna. So £440 all in haha

Where did you get your screen from.

eBay from a breaker car. Got lucky one day searching Skoda Columbus screen and it appeared at £200 having been stripped from a 2016 vRS.

you got very lucky with the screen and CP removal, cheapest screen i can find is £300+ and CP removal is £125

I know, hence I’m not overly enthused about doing it all again to facilitate the virtual cockpit. I’m tempted with a new vRS in a year or so depending on price spec and deals around but I want a petrol one so I’ll spec the options that I want then rather than worry about it now.

@SashaGrace was the CP costs from a Skoda dealer or after market installer??

Skoda dealer. They quoted 15-20 mins and they did it in 10. Ended up being free but that’s a stroke of good luck I don’t know how I befell!! Most people seem to end up spending about £100 or so on it.

Thanks Sasha incidentally which dealer was it and how long ago. If close enough I might try them.

Sytner Skoda North Wales, about 5-6 months ago. I have a good working relationship with the service manager there so I get keen deals and discounts but if you’re close it’s worth a try.

ok got the screen the new 2018 amundsen for £200 (there are three more) and i can get CP removed for £50! win win!

Asked Skoda for a price for a laugh... £780 for the screen :fubar:

can you go to 0252 ?

No idea, I’m perfectly happy with 0245 so I’m not looking to move to a newer firmware.

@JohnnyType2 are you saying you have the other screens or the seller does?  I'm still looking at a way to get my old Amundsen swapped out.

Couldn’t tell you I’m afraid as my parking sensors have never worked, the module is knackered and it hasn’t crept high enough up the fix list yet :D
