Knocking/thumping driving down country roads

Featured Replies

I’ve noticed over the past few weeks that fabia seems to be making an dull knocking noise as I’m driving down country roads - seems fine on a roads.

i did think it could be track rods/ball thingys (whatever the correct words are), but it doesn’t sound the same as last time it went, and the side the noise is coming from were only replaced last Xmas.

any thoughts

Top mount or other suspension related. Get someone to fix it or diy.

If it's noisy when driving straight over uneven surfaces but quite when under load through corners.

It's your drop links.

Cheap and easy to fix. Just make sure buy proper ones and not cheap eBay knock offs like I did the first time.

Meyle HD drop links are good.

+1 for this and they are cheap, the ones I bought off eBay were £30 for the 2x heavy duty drop links and 2x heavy duty console bushes posted.

>>> And the Meyle HD (Heavy duty) Range, have a four year warranty so keep that receipt!

Mine has a similar dull knock every now and then replaced my top mounts and drop links to find it was my exhaust hitting the floor above the axel hope this helps

That’s interesting as I know the exhaust needs work doing on it...

I had the exact same thing. Turned out all it needed was a clamp replacement. Easy fix.

I did have centre section go too but the tell tale was the big noise of the exhaust suddenly coming through like the noise of a spitfire would tend to be a bit of an obvious tell tale sign.

So I'm surprised its not accompanied with huge sound effects lol - would tend to clarify

The truth is for noises like this could be anything ( could be top mounts, console bushes, drop links etc), its best to just take it to a garage for a free estimate if you can't work it out yourself by rocking suspension etc and listening - they will normally tell you whats wrong even if they don't fix it.
