What power can be had???

Featured Replies

Hi gents...

Nothing too too serious here but I’m looking at Re-Mapping my Superb...

CR170 Engine

Before I go for a Map, what modifications would you do or recommend to do?

The car is a Taxi and has been VERY reliable, other than the fact that the Heater motor has been on its way out for a while and packed up completely last week.

Im looking for your recommendations with my current scenario.

Fire away

thanks

Personally i would keep it reliable and leave well alone, then that keeps it simple with the insurance underwriter as it is an unmodified car used as a taxi.

Is 170 PS not enough with a few paying passengers and UK NSL's?

After 2 years in the car and it now being out of warranty, it’s been great but I feel that with a map it would be so much better at A) delivering the power and B.) fuel economy would rise.

Mapped correctly of course, I’d hope this to be the case

Nothing needed then just a 'Tuner / Software uploader' you can trust, they will advise of any Intercooler Upgrade or the likes.

Best get the heater fixed first as that will be more important to fare paying customers than your fuel consumption.

Take a look at www'celtictuning.co.uk they can come to you, or if you can pop down to Cornwall they will do the remap on their rolling road. My 140 has had a stage 1 map applied and achieves 193bhp, it feels a lot more responsive and is slightly more economical.

Check with your insurer to see how much they will charge on your premium to cover the remap.

At most you'll gain about 30 bhp/50 Nm from a remap on the 170. There isn't much more headroom on the stock hardware. There are also no cheap bolt on upgrades that will help. The car already has a cold air intake from the factory and an over-sized air filter.

Anything beyond that and you're going down the road of turbo and fuel injection hardware upgrades which gets expensive very quickly, then you have to worry about the clutch and gearbox not breaking under the extra load if you do that.

How many miles has it done? It's an important consideration at higher mileages, as the turbo will be well bedded in and used to delivering the usual amount of boost.

Unless you want to factor in a turbo upgrade of course!

I went to Superchips for my remap and had a before and after dyno to prove results. I run mine on Shell. V power diesel to maximise which I find helps.

I'd agree as that engine doesn't quite benefit from a map as much as the newer diesels do. It's still a noticeable amount though.

this is part of my worry, but I’m itching for a little bit more power... perhaps I just need to pull my finger out and get the track car finished
